    Police Steal VH Thunder

I just saw a confirmation on VH1 Classic that the Police will be opening the Grammy Awards on February 11th. It would have been an excellent opportunity for VH to show the world that they are really back, but as recent actions have shown that is not the case. The new PR chick is kicking ass!!! Come to think of it the Grammy's probably told Eddie "No Mike, No Appearance on the Show!" Considering what happened at the MTV Video Awards many moons ago it's a good idea that they just stay holed up in 5150 studios.

Van Halen has pretty much dropped the ball in every way so far for this tour. It was pretty much a given by mid December The Police would be doing a reunion and that really should have been the kick in the ass to get contracts signed, dates booked and some sort of announcement/press conference. Then of course there's all the controversy and ill-will due to the Mike/Wolfgang issue, Ed's typically conflicting to outright stupid comments in print and the general ongoing speculation on the health and abilities of Eddie and Dave which do nothing to help their cause.

Meanwhile, The Police camp seem to have all their ducks in a row, haven't engaged in any interpersonal bullshit and appear to simply be getting down to business in a professionally straightforward way.

At this point, Van Halen will be lucky to enjoy the kind of buzz the low-key Smashing Pumpkins or Dio-fronted Black Sabbath reunions are enjoying so far.

It's not possible to steal VH's thunder when they didn't have any to start with. It saddens me to say this, but the reality of the situation is that it's 2007 and Van Halen has been dead in the water for 10 years or so.

I can't say I disgaree with a whole lot of this. You know why? When I heard it was close to a done deal with VH sans Mikey, I wasn't as excited as I was when it was a full-on reunion. When the Police thing got confirmed today, I nearly shit myself with excitement.

I'm prepared to drop big bucks on thes eshows this summer, but I won't bother with the VH thing more than one gig and if it was between a top-tier ticket for the Police and a top-tier ticket for VH, guess where I'm gonna spend it?

The Police are the opening act. Maybe they are going to have VH close the show.
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em. -

Sabbath with Dio is playing a short tour of Canada with one show in NYC in March, then playing in Europe through early Summer before coming back to a full US tour around July. This coincides with a single cd "Best Of" release from the Dio era with 2 new songs due in early April.

As for The Pumpkins, they've just announced a headlining gig at the Rock AM Ring festival in Germany. It's unknown if guitarist James Iha is back in the band or who the bass player will be (Jane's Addiction original bassist was a front runner late last year). But world class drummer Jimmy Chamberlane is in with Corgan. A new album is slated for a late Spring release.

On a more personal note, I'm a bit jazzed about the Jesus and Mary Chain 1 show reunion at the California Coachella desert festival which will be headlined by the reunited Rage Against The Machine.

All these reunions almost make me want to reunite my right hand with my wanker. But then I'd have to fire my wife.

Even the Police can figure out how to reunite, but VH can't. Sad. Looking forward to watching those guys at the Grammy's, and not have to think about the VH trainwreck that is coming.

Don't want to sound like the husband of Debbie Downer here, but.......
No way in HELL Van Halen, without all 4 original members, ever makes a "statement" on an awards show again. All you ever get is the circus that was '96, and the STELLAR Poundcake from the '90 or '91 VMA's or whatever MTV shindig that was. Hell, it looks like they will even screw up their own RRHOF induction by not playing AT ALL, let alone with all 5 legacy members.

If they had Dave AND Mike aboard? Another story

I'm actually stunned Rage Against The Machine is even doing one show, much less considering any sort of tour especially considering it really hasn't been that long (by most band reunion standards) since they officially broke up. You talk about inter-band hatred, I used to hear that even by the 2nd album, Zack and the other would never work in the studio at the same time and would have to stagger their schedules so the band and Zack weren't in the studio together.

I know the writing was on the wall about 6 months ago when Audioslave didn't tour behind their last album and Cornell announced he was doing a solo album, but the announcement was still pretty stunning that they'd even do one show, much less a rather commercially overhyped festival.

I'm not a big fan of The Police, but if/when they perform at the Grammy's, I hope they do something other than "Every Breath You Take". It'd be nice to hear something along the lines of "Synchronicity II", " Don't Stand So Close To Me", or "Can't Stand Losing You".
"Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that."

"This is a lttle prayer dedicated to the separation of church and state. I guess if they are going to force those kids to pray in schools they might as well have a nice prayer like this: Our Father who art in heaven, and to the republic for which it stands, thy kingdom come, one nation indivisible as in heaven, give us this day as we forgive those who so proudly we hail. Crown thy good into temptation but deliver us from the twilight's last gleaming. Amen and Awomen. ."

Sorry, but I guess I've just never been stoned enough or artsy-fartsy enough to comprehend Gabriel-fronted Genesis. I have TRIED. It's like early Floyd and early Yes.

I like the Duke thru Invisible Touch era Genesis the most. And Then There Were Three is decent.

    Looking forward to The Police.
