RIP Barbaro...
I know Barbaro had to be euthanized yesterday morning at the University of Pennsylvania Veterinary School's New Bolton Center, but I thought this deserved a thread tonight.
Barbaro had a tremendous will to live and it really looked like he was going to beat the odds until the past few days. Thoroughbreds, however are analogous to a Lamborghini or Maserati sparkling acceleration and great speed but delicate - all that weight and muscle balanced on - for the horse’s size - lightly boned legs!
I have a love for animals and had never been so affected by an animal as when I saw him just pull up lame last year in the race. He had been a real trooper going through all this agony since then! RIP

I've been following the Triple Crown, Queen's Plate, and the Breeder's since I was about 6. My son and I picked Barbaro to win the Kentucky. I didn't place a bet at the local bar for the race (dang, should have done it). When the Preakness race started, my son and I picked Barbaro again. My son asked, what is wrong with our horse? I said Barbaro injured himself and they may have to put him down. My son was concerned about his horse and I held my boy and said it'll be alright. I was amazed that Barbaro lasted this long.
