Although I'm a much bigger Dave-era fan, That's Why I Love You is definitely cool. By far the best song they did with Gary, IMO. Angel Eyes is an early accustic number they did with Dave, which is also very cool, even though it was much different than the typical style of the original VH line up. Some others with Dave would be Big Trouble, Voodoo Queen, and Down In Flames. Crossing Over is another one that's different (this one was with Sammy), but still a great song, to me anyway. It wasn't on the U.S. release of Balance, but IMO it should have been. Very dark, but a great tune nonetheless! Hope this helps ...

"One of the reasons I left Sabbath was because Van Halen was blowing us off the stage every night. It was embarrassing." -Ozzy Osbourne

"When I first heard "Runnin' With The Devil" on the radio, I was stunned and found myself dizzy, walking through my high school hallways thinking, "What was THAT?!"
Eddie Van Halen was so innovative and kicked so much ass, and David Lee Roth was for a time indisputably the Greatest Man in America.
If aliens came down and challenged us to a Battle of the Bands to decide the fate of Planet Earth, I would feel very confident putting early Van Halen forward as our champion." -Tom Morello

"There is no heir to the throne of Eddie Van Halen. Nobody sits on that throne. Nobody takes that throne. Here's why it's different with Eddie: when a great guitar player passes, you just move on to another, right? But in this case, Eddie wasn't just a 'guitar player'. We're talking about a guy who changed culture and how we play guitar. He was like an alien coming in and fucking everything up so much that even the legends beforehand are like, 'Okay .. what is happening here? What sorcery is this?'" -Nuno Bettencourt

'Down In Flames' and 'Big Trouble' are ones to definitely download. These songs could have easily made one of their albums. Who knows, maybe someday they will release these.

I always thought THAT'S WHY I LOVE YOU is one of their worst songs. It doesn't have a real melody and I don't think the music is very interesting. I WANT SOME ACTION (from the 5150 sessions) isn't that bad, however. It would have fit in nicely on that album, and could even have replaced THE INSIDE (sorry, just my opinion, never liked that song). The Dave stuff is almost all great. The 1977 demos should be released someday in good quality. There's also a great instrumental recording from the 1984 sessions called FRESH (at least that's what it's listed as). Also check out ACT LIKE IT HURTZ from the Women and Children Sessions. Good instrumental.

Best songs from the 1977 Demo Tape: GET THE SHOW ON THE ROAD, SHE'S THE WOMAN, VOODOO QUEEN, BABE DON'T LEAVE ME ALONE.

I want some action is cool. I wish tey would have put it on 5150 but I guess it was too much in the vein of Good Enough

WOW! FRESH is a fake? Damn. I was so excited at hearing a real-live 1984 outtake. If it is a fake, they did a great job, because they even have the same 1984-era drum sound and guitar sound. Oh well.
