Question from Craig in Yonkers, New York. "I just want to ask how you really feel about Eddie Van Halen"

Answer from Yngwie: "I think Eddie Van Halen is great. I think he's absolutely great-- I think his first several albums were just as good as it gets. In fact, I heard a song from one of those early albums on the radio today, and I thought to myself, "That's still really cool." When Eddie first appeared on the scene, I think what he came up with was something very fresh, and the whole thing with David Lee Roth and the band was really great. On some of the more recent albums, it started to sound kind of like the fire was gone in some tracks, but then he'll come back and surprise you again. I have most of his albums, and I just love his stuff. There was never any "feud" between us as was reported in a lot of magazines back in the early days. I have always had a lot of respect for him as an artist, and I still do."

EVH: Definitely. Playing guitar was my sanctuary. It was the one place I could go to if I got fucked around by a girlfriend, or anyone else, for that matter. It still is. If there’s something I can’t deal with, I can just spend hours playing. It’s a God-given gift – I certainly don’t know where the ideas come from. They’re obviously given to you, and you have to keep your fingers moving and your mind quiet. I try my best to not think about thinking, so I can just let it flow. Because when I start thinking, forget it. <br />So....why he isn't playing guitar ? ? ?

Yngwie might have said silly things back in his days of being in a coked out haze, but he knows who the man is.
My favorite Yngwie quote about EVH is from Guitar World back in like 1988. I think the Inside posted this in one of their issues as well:

"When I heard the first Van Halen album, I couldnt believe how great the guitar playing was- and I heard that album at a point when I didn't like any of the new guitar players. I mean, he totally changed the whole guitar field- and he's still as great now as he's ever been. I would love to jam with him."- Yngwie J. Malmsteen

Unfortunately Yngwies notorious attitude and shitty demeanor, along with at times making fun of every damn guitar player on the planet, prevented us from ever hearing and VH & Ynwgie jam.

Say what you want and say its music for musicians, it might be, but Yngwie is a genius. I gotta tell ya his cover of VH's 'Light Up The Sky' on that VH Tribute 2000 stole the show big time. He absolutely shredded on that.
Besides, anyone who can fuckin play Pagannini on a damn guitar is unreal. Yngwie never had a guitar lesson either. Pretty sick dude.

EVH: Definitely. Playing guitar was my sanctuary. It was the one place I could go to if I got fucked around by a girlfriend, or anyone else, for that matter. It still is. I always thought he had a good attitude, he's right on the money about Van Halen. My problem is I can't enjoy the guy for more than 1 song. They all start to sound alike. The guy throws it all into 1 song. When the next song starts it's almost the same.( Here comes the part where he plays really fast, and here come the arpeggios) Eddie never did that. The guy can play for 20 minutes and never tire you.

Yeah they can sound similar but if you look at the tab they are not really similar !
I could hear a solo on the radio and say Ha this is Van Halen cause I know how EVH solo sound like
Its like if I hear a Y.J.M solo

I always laughed at his guitar instructional video ...

it was ridiculous .. he'd be like "this is one of my favourite licks" and he'd play this arpeggio pattern at like blinding speed .. and i'd be sitting there going what the hell just happened then he'd go "ok i'll play it slow so you can follow .." and then he'd play it at like half speed or something and it'd still be so bloody fast ! i could never follow it !

I saw Yngwie open for Ozzy in 1986(?). He did a solo piece, like that was necessary. Any way he did a little tribute to Eddie playing the tremelo picking part to Eruption and I swear to God he did it with his teeth. I have never figured out how he did it unless it was a tape. But I think it was real. I do agree that he is too over the top. I have never liked anything that he did because it was all there on every song. Great attitude for an athlete, bad for a musician.

I dont think so
Yeah they are some song that maybe the solo sound the same but can someone of you play one of his song completly ?
Even if is song can sound the same they are alot of talent in those song and work
I dont know if EVH can play a Yngwie Solo ? Yeah
Listen to Rising Force and listen to Attack and I dont think they sound the same ... maybe some part but ...
