My friend Jamie Coe died early Saturday morning of a heart attack while driving home from singing at his club "Jamie's" in Livonia Michigan. He and his band remained in the business 50 years (OMG 50 years!) after their 2 hits - "The Fool" and "Black and Blue". He loved his music and had a great voice - still strong at age 71. I remember doing a number with him at his club about 15 years ago when he needed a female to duet with on a Neil Diamond song. His wife Suzie was his greatest fan and the love of his life. She is devastated but holding up ok as the word gets out. He was such a loving and giving person that there will be a huge outpouring of reaction. The funeral will be private because, frankly, he was broke and heavily in debt to a former co-owner of the club. I dearly hope some sort of memorial event will occur for him maybe in the name of one of his beloved charities.
