    Default how long before .......

I was talking about this last week to a fellow mucician, how long do you think it will be before they come up with sample amp modeling , meaning if there is a particular sound you want say Eds Meanstreet tone or Unchained tone all you have to do is sample it to a device and the amp recreates it for you?
    wouldn't that be cool ??
yea I did too muany drugs when I was younger I know ;-)

I wonder if EVH would approve simulated tone. He's such a diehard tube guy, I do't really see it happening. Still, the technology is there, as is the market for it, so maybe someone will talk him into it.

I honestly don't think EVH would have a problem with modelling technology for sounds from his records. Especially if he was going to make a buck off of it. He was using the Line6 Echo Pro in his last rig, so he's not adverse to modelling.

whoa there buckwheat, your missing what I said, the line6 spider III does not let you sample a guitar sound from a cd or whatever then reproduce that sound on it's own, it has preset that someone programmed into it at their lab
etc etc. some are pretty good and some are so far off you wonder if they are
embarrassed for even puting them in.
I was talking about an amp that can recreate the guitar tone it hears on it's own
know what I mean jelly bean ?

I think what Rols is talking about is if you hear a recording of an amp you like, you will be able to record it to the simulator and it will automatically determine the best modeling settings, or it will behave like a synthesizer sampler where it records the sounds you want and you play them back through the digital processor (like Ferris Bueller did with his cough.)
I think that’s what he’s saying, I could be wrong.

There was a thread on here featuring a link to some footage of Dweezil Zappa playing something like what you're asking about. He used a way different guitar and ended up emulationg EVH's sound for Eruption, then dialed in ACDC and played Back In Black. I think it worked like you're talking about. They ran it through the computer and then played with a pedal and *bam*, you had it. I could be wrong but this sounds close.

That's some pretty intense analysis of sine-waves and signal frequencies to actually derive a specific amp tone. Not to mention the room acoustics in which the recording was drawn from.

From a technology perspective I guess it's possible could be done like with a sampling synthesizer and then covert it to an amp modeling device.

I believe that was a video Dweezil did promoting the new Guitar Rig processor/software. It seems like pretty sweet software, but it just has a bunch of effects you can play around with, like any other modeling software. Doesn't do what Rols is suggesting, which would be f'ing cool!

Rol in all honesty I hope to god that type of thing never comes out. I teach guitar and the question that I get asked over and over and over is how do I get "insert famous guitarist here"'s sound. And all I end up with is a bunch of Billie Joe, James Hetfield and since they are my students; EVH tone hunters. I think everyone forgot about finding your own tone. When students ask for a good amp, I suggest everything under the sun except for VOX tonelabs and Line 6 anything amps just because they offer a simulation of everything imaginable except for the possibility of something original. I'm only 23 and every modeling amp ive ever owned sucked the creative life right out of me. I never did the whole hunt for the brown sound thing, I've owned 3 wolfgangs and a 5150II, in my defense, the only reason I used the stuff was because I liked the way it sounded, not because Eddie endorsed it. Eddie's name attracted me to the product but what sold me on it was the fact that it was a damn fine instrument. Sorry for the rant...
    Van Halen....nothing else is needed....
