Got home from work about 10:00pm and put on some 'history of rock: part 5' or some shit that I dvr'd on VH1 classic. The info button said Ed was part of it so I gave it a shot. As I'm watching it this scroll comes on the top of the screen saying that Billboard has basically confirmed a 40 city tour etc...

I'm on this site about 5 times a day and know every rumor, report, article, whatever. I guess actually seeing it on tv made it seem more official than all the stuff we see here everyday. Either way, as I read it I got butterflies in my stomache. Like that nervous feeling of 'I can't belive I might actually see David Lee Roth and Eddie Van Halen on the same fucking stage.' They broke up when I was 9. I've been waiting for this for 23 years.

Who knows if it will go through. Who knows if it will be a disaster. Maybe it will be incredible. What I do know is that there is no other band in the world that I would get that same nervous/excited feeling about more than the mighty Van Halen.

I feel the same way. Hell, I was only 4 when they broke up, didn't really get into them until balance came out. I think it's shitty what Ed has done to Mike, and I can feel for all of you who saw them in all their former glory, but the idea of seeing ed live in concert is what keeps me going.

I would call my attention to VH in '07 "calmly skeptical." I am excited at the idea of VH being active, and I think DLR fronting again will make a lot of fans very happy. What makes me nervous is the overall state of VH for the last eight years. Right now we aren't guaranteed a great thing, just the notion that something is going to happen this year. I hate having to be so cynical about my all-time favorite band.

Regarding butterflies, the one-off performance of Pink Floyd with Roger Waters at Live 8 did it for me. Funny, too, because I never really had a Pink Floyd "phase." I was just always a casual fan. Somehow I liked the idea that almost bitter enemies could get back out there again for charity and just the hell of it.
