Solo Material During the New Tour?
so which hagar-era songs do you think dave will cover? stand back... 5, 4, 3, 2...
...just kidding
actually, do you think there is a snowflake's chance in hell that we get to hear a dave solo song or two? in other words, in '04, each member got to do a solo... al, mike, ed, sammy...
during his spotlight, sammy did two solo songs... how do you think they will handle that this time around?

The tour will be about VH, not solo work. So there won't be any Dave-solo songs.
I wouldn't be surprised if they somehow found a way to do a couple Sam-era songs so as to not ignore half of their repertoire, but that remains to be seen.

I can honestly see Dave trying to sing WCTBL or some of the other sam songs that don't require heavy vocals.

i don't know that dave has ever been accepting of sammy's work, even when they toured together in '02...
he's always come off as feeling that the material from his era was great and sammy's was sub-par, or at least a notch below his (please, no sammy vs. dave debate... that's not the point here)... viewing it like that, i think dave would be resistant to doing any sammy songs...
that's why i'm saying that maybe dlr would be able to do one or two of his own songs (although he would need someone to play his material)... not saying that it's going to happen... i'm just wondering if people think it will happen or even if they want to see it happen...

If Dave gets a solo, it'll probably be the "Ice Cream Man" thing he used to do. I don't see him doing any solo material whatsoever.
In and out. I didn't even make that pun on purpose.

We'll either get Just a Gigalo, Yankee Rose, or just Dave doing the intro to Ice Cream Man.

Maybe a cover song or two, but I think the Van Hagar chapter is closed. (atleast for this year)
'Old Van Halen, when I was in it-classic Van Halen-makes you wanna drink, dance and screw, right? And the new Van Halen encourages you to drink milk, drive a Nissan and have a relationship.' - David Lee Roth.

If Dave sings a Sammy song then he really does deserve to just get pennies for crawling back up to 5150

The closest you'll probably get to a Sammy era tune is 316 during Ed's solo spot. More than likely, this'll be exactly like Dave's solo shows of the past 3 or 4 years except no Roth solo stuff and perhaps a few deep cuts neither Dave or VH have played in decades. Also, I bet at least one if not both '96 Roth/VH tunes will be played.

I don't think Ed would allow any solo DLR stuff. He probably regrets letting Sammy have two Hagar songs per show in the past. But when Sammy first joined the band - they needed as many songs as they could find because they hadn't built up a bunch of hits yet.
Dave hardly plays his solo material on his own tours as it is. I almost think he realizes his solo stuff isn't really all that good compared to classic VH.

If Bassplayer were there, they might let him throw in 5150 or Summer Nights or something, while Dave's backstage getting a blowjob.
But apparently he won't be there. And if Eddie or the kid start singing, I will personally kick them off the stage.
Now, as far as solo material goes, I don't expect Ed to be receptive to the idea of Dave's solo material. Shit, it's not like Dave plays most of it himself. But my idea of the ultimate setlist for this tour includes an acoustic set somewhere in the middle featuring Dave & Eddie on guitars which would consist of...
Could This Be Magic
Going Places (from DLR Band)
Take Your Whiskey Home
Spanish Fly/Little Guitars Intro
and then back to the amps with "Little Guitars", of course. I know Eddie's pride and ego probably wouldn't let him go for this idea, but I think it would work great. Actually "Damn Good" would fit that concept as well.........Eat Us And Smile
Welcome back, Van HALEN!!!!
...It's the BAND and Dave is really the cat that can front VH. He sang his ASS off and was really cool. No cheese here guys, this is filet Mignon! - Steve Lukather's comment after witnessing a Van HALEN 2007 rehearsal

Runaway is one of those songs that are so 80's love it. Just like Jump reminds me of the 80's.
