PC Games
Hey guys, looking for opinions on PC games. I want to buy a game for my PC and am looking for a first person type shooter thing. I don't want to have to do alot of thinking so a fun game like some sort of Sniper or Hunting thing would be cool.
Also am wondering since I'm pretty inexperienced when it comes to these things. Do I need to buy a game controller or do you use your mouse for these things.
I appreciate any feeedback. Like I said I'm not new to games as I love Halo on the Xbox but never have really done the PC gaming thing.

I've never been into mindless shooting, but meh. Doom 3? Quake 4? Half Life 2? Serious Sam 2? Hitman Contracts? Try either

I'd recommend Half Life 2 (Assuming your systems able to cope with it of course.)
It wraps in some decent amount of story and some well done set pieces, its a bit more than just a shooter. Plus theres multiplayer and the mod community to divert you.
Doom 3 and quake 4 were a bit meh IMHO. I hear fear and Gun were both pretty good but havent played them personally.
Enemy territorys a decent recommendation as it is free (as mentioned) - bear in mind its multiplayer only though, and as such might be a little daunting as a first stop into PC shooters. Americas Army I think is also a worthwhile one to check out as its a freebie, though once again haven't played it myself. The price is compelling however!
Mouse and keyboard are by far the best way to play shooters on a PC. Dont bother with a gamepad.A little zen....... Headed your way.......

You can buy the entire Half Life series in an collector's set for around $49
If you can only get one, get Half Life 2. It's a great game to start out with. It has a great game engine, cool story and satifying weapons. I've replayed this game about 11 times, I love the gravity gun (you'll find out).

kind of depends on if you want online play or not.
most games do one or the other well, not both.
for online cod2 and wet are popular.
I host a soldier of fortune2 server, its a bit dated and hard to find copies, but after 4 years, several dozen of us still meet online every thursday from 8 to midnight.

Get Counter Strike. It's like 15 bucks at Wal Mart and you get CS Source, which is a ton better.

Sorry I can't agree with that
Throwing someone with basically no PC shooter experience into a competitive, established, multi player only game is not what I would imagine to be an ideal introduction to the genre!!A little zen....... Headed your way.......

Yea, true enough. I just kinda think the counter strike 'culture' might be a sorta harsh jumping in point.

I love Philadelphia Freedom. Always reminds me of 1975. The year of KISS, Evel Knievel and the Six Million Dollar Man. That was when Elton had the best lineup: Davey Johnstone, Dee Murray, Nigel...
