Just watched it for the first time, and I must say that it was pretty fuckin cool. The amp and geetar sound like a perfect match, but it was just good to see Ed out there doing his thing.

Drunk, sober, hair up or down, who the fuck cares.

    Go get em, Eddie!

Hopefully you'll bring these two guys when ya do...

It was damn good. His tone sounded very similar to Balance / 1996, which I really enjoyed.

Man, if he sounds this good on tour, he'd BETTER bring Mikey and Dave with. I'm NOT turning this into another Mike thread, its JMO. Just stating how I feel. Keep this on topic...

I dunno about that Balance era tone..I haven't heard a mean ass tone out of Ed since...1984. Minus some of the gain of course.

His tone got kinda soupy during the Balance tour, with all the chorus shit. That tone I just heard was just sick.

If you go and listen to Ed's solo spot during the San Diego show in 1984, it's pretty similar I think.

I'll give it another listen just to be sure. I never heard the San Diego show, always wanted to. Its what I heard from not really paying too much attention.

How bout it, Paw! Ed got me in here talkin VH with you crazies! Been a while for that.

Anywho, you guys can check out that solo I was speaking of. You'll notice that Ed's picking isn't anywhere near what it once was. So just try to listen to his tone and compare it with the new guitar/amp combo heard above.

Speaking of picking, though, it looks like he has his "butterfly" picking back. He didn't seem to be able to do it on the '04 tour, and barely in '98.

I didn't get Balance at all, I got more of an old school tone. Sounded thicker and "crunchier" than I've heard it quite some time.

Watched it again for the second time. That is some serious tone he's got there. Sort of like the 2007 version of VHI. Really good sounding stuff. That Fender seems like a winner, and I'm sure that the original Frankie has something to do with it. Really thrilled that Eddie seems good there too, not just his playing.

I think that there are a lot of cats out there who liked the fact that Ed had gotten away from the dripping wet sound from the FUCK days, but the tone from 5150 wasn't cutting it......too gainy.

Seems like his current setup reminds a lot of folks of Ed's earlier setups....

It killed me that he insisted on being plugged in for the 2004 tour for tone reasons, yet his playing at some shows was just down right horrendous......glad to see he's doing a 180....
Actually I think most of us are Dave, Sam, and Mike fans. There's just a small group of people who have strange allegiances and like to get into petty pissing contests that I can't believe everyone on this site isn't bored of. - Brett
