Pretty damn good I thought. The beginning reminds me of Rush too and a little of the background made me think of Bad Horsie by Vai. Good tune man, keep it up!

I liked it. It does sound like Rush at the beginning, then like Dream Theater then the Vai/Satch riffage comes in. The orchestration at the beginning was too loud, not a bad melody, but just loud...however, it does settle in the mix a little better thru-out the song. If ya like wah-wah solos, you will like the solo sections.

I like the little taste of the acoustic guitar almost 1/2 way through...nice touch!
At the end, if you mix the overdub guitars a little louder, it may be even more jamming.

A little less whammy bar and more left hand vibrato and it will sound a little cleaner IMO...but it is your song!

that could be on any number od Cd's from Vai to a Rush intrumental

I actually really liked that I'm gonna throw it on a cd and play it ont the way to work if you don't mind.

one this I would say that could improve it is a hook off the main riff.

Hey thanks - I thought I'd get some flaming - it's not the most 'pop' style of tune- it's kind of out-there with the 7/4 section.

I'm a big Vai/Satch fan, and grew up cutting my teeth on Rush, so I guess it came through.

To answer some questions about it-

I play all the instruments.
I record with a Mackie 24/96 hard disc rack-mounted recording unit.
My current mixing board is a Bahringer MX8000 with full meter bridge.
I use a Lexicon 500 series effects unit and a DBX stereo rack mounted compressor on all single tracks, plus on the master mix too. A stereo graphic equalizer for master mixdowns and I have Shure SM57 and 58 mics, AKG 414 mics and a few large condenser mics (no tubes).
Neutrik patch bays to connect everything.

Drums: Premeir Birch, 5-piece kit w/ Zildian cymbals
Amps: Marshall JCM900 50W heads and 4-12 cabinets
Guitars: 1990 Ibanez Universe UVMC for lead, 1990 Jem Floral for harmonies
Martin HD-28 acoustic
Bass: Peavey Millenium 4-string
Keyboards: Korg N-1, N-5 synthisizers

I use M-Audio BX-5 near-field powered monitors with a KLH 12" 200w sub.
I sorta finished off the basement with a glass window seperating the control room from the instrument room. It's a lot of fun and keeps me home at night and out of trouble.
