still no mention of the hof from evh... he's seems a mess... how's he going to be lucent at the ceremonies to even speak clearly, let alone play? i'm not slamming eddie, it's just that he's sending himself down the toilet with the way he's obviously treating his body with alcohol and whatever else...

sad days ahead
I loved EVH through the years but...
it is sad that he was drunk. if I was on stage like that I be embarrassed if I saw the clips later on
he is stumbling over words and burping /hiccupping over.
it is horrible.
yes he had mouth surgery, so I can forgive his speaking problems.
I can here the problems because it, but I also can hear the speaking problems because he is drunk.
if people thing he looks/is great, that’s horrible... I do like Eddie and want him to play music and be around.
I love the music he plays and think he has always been a cool guy
but he needs control.
even he has a dirty shirt on.
he used to dress good, look good and act good.
he slowly had been on a downward spiral. soon he is going to hit a wall.
I hope that this isn’t is all that we are left with
I beat worn drunk Eddie.
now that’s sadDAVE vs SAMMY
People need to let this go.....it is like comparing an ex wife to your current wife...you can say how things would have be different if she were still here but she left you, so you moved on with your life.....
Same with Van Halen...would they have liked to have Roth stay, yes...but he decided to leave so they moved on.......
and the rest is history….. well until 1996……..lol

How do you figure he is drunk? He looks and sounds totally coherent there. If anything, he seems really nervous and as we know, he's not the greatest at public speaking. He's missing a good chunk of his tongue, that is all. I'm all for criticizing when it is due, but in this case it really isn't. This is one of Eddie's better appearances in the past few years...I really don't see how you can slam him for this one.

I'll post my thoughts again, for those who think this was a "bad outing" for him, and since the mods have allowed this discussion to span 3 different threads:
As far as "clarity" goes on Ed's "personal sobriety scale", he's about an 8 out of 10. That's almost...not quite, but almost as good as he gets.
The interesting thing here is that he HAS CONTROL over the interaction and content in this particular environment, but came across as rambling & mumbling due to not jotting down some key discussion points and the order in which he would address them. He doesn't sound drunk to me, rather, he seems to lack direction or guidelines. There's nothing wrong with that.....he's not a trained public speaker or presenter.
He was certainly very, VERY clear at the end of the final clip when he apologized for his poor public speaking. If he would project his voice into the microphone, instead of getting all "Marlon Brando" on it, he'd be more comprehensible in that environment.
This is the LEAST disappointed I've been in any appearance he's made in the last 9 years. Regarding the playing:
The Marshall is the only sound that really "does it" for me, but I like the sound of that PAF through the new amp. There's more note separation there than I've ever heard when he's played through the 5150 with either of his more recent high-output, overly bassy pickups. I don't hear any buzzy bottom-end, either, which is nice for a change.
I've always liked the middle-ground he finds with his chord work, which is more interesting than just simple power chords, but never reaches a point of complexity or sounding cluttered.

I think this was the best he has looked and sounded in a long time. Eddie was never the greatest talker, that's just not him. He has always been a little odd, but big deal.
I saw he 3 times on the last tour with soundcheck, and this is by far the best I have seen him. His playing was good and his interaction was fun. Things may be looking up, I'm excited to see whats coming down the line.

I gotto say I don't mind the sound of that amp at all. If he brought down the gain a bit it would be hot-rodded Marshall for the most part.

As has been pointed out by myself and others in other threads, we've become very accustomed to Ed playing through a Harmonizer and other heavy-duty effects in the last several years. His NAMM presentation was just him plugged into an amp--very much like what he did in the old days.
