    Who has kids in karate?

My son (7) just started this week, and seemed to enjoy his first class, "Tang Soo Do"... I brought him to visit the school in the summer and told him to let me know when he was ready to start, ie no pressure... He decided in late November he wanted to do it, and I waited until the new year... Guess we'll see how it goes from here on...

I started back in August. The Kiddies aren't that interested. Mine are at the age where they're not interested in anything that I am. I enjoy Karate. I'll be going first thing in the morning.

That's cool, not sure if I could jump in and do it myself at 38...

You can do it. I'm 36! July 21st 2006 I was 260 lbs and couldn't run 1/4 mile w/o stopping. Today I'm 201, can run 3 miles non stop and work the rags off of guys in their 20's. The Karate's been a big plus in flexibility also. Good stress release as well.

Tang Soo Do is a Korean martial art similar to Tae Kwan Do. TSD is a harder style, though, with more traditional Japanese and Chinese forms in the mix.

I'll test for my 2nd degree black belt in May. I'm 36 - began training 6 or so years ago. I highly suggest any martial arts for anyone of any age. Great exercise, self defense, stretching, etc.

Plus, nothing makes you feel more alive than getting punched in the nose. (You cannot be thinking about tomorrow's work day with fists and feet coming at you. Puts you in the moment, and that's what I enjoy most about it.)

If he's a master, he's 4th degree black belt or higher. What's he doing side-kicking a red belt in the head?

He's 5th now, but I do not know how old that picture is... It only says that it's from a tournament in Bermuda...

I only hope that red belt was raising his right leg as he was getting tagged. If he's being knocked back from the kick, that's a DQ blow (at least at the tournaments around here). But I'm guessing your instuctor has pretty good control. Awfully tough to judge anything based on a still shot.

Well... My son (who turns 8 tomorrow) is going to his first grading on Wednesday to do his forms in front of Grandmaster Cheezic in an attempt to obtain his Orange belt...

Good luck to your son vod, if he gets the belt that would be one hell of a birthday present. My brother started at 8, here's what his wall looks like now:

That was month ago and he won 3rd place in country's championship just last Saturday, and the belt is dated - he's got a yellow now. Makes me really proud of him.
