Default I Can't Believe the Hatred Towards EVH Here...

I can't believe the one-sided hatred towards Eddie on this site. I hope Eddie doesn't read this shit, that's for sure...

Anyway, onto the point of my post: ... I think it is TOO hilarious that all these 2007 "Sam/Mike lovers" or "Eddie haters" don't see and openly admit to both sides of this dispute.

Here's what I saw in the last 6 years:

    1. In approximately 1999/2000 the "VH3 Band" is recording a second album, soon after Warner's A&R & Marketing Execs balk on the project 100% out of fear. Quickly thereafter Eddie gets cancer and at this point Mike is still a member of the band since he was in the studio recording the followup to VH3 with the others. There is also activity with Dave around this same period and Mike is around for that as well lending more proof that he is a VH member in "cool" standing.

    2. In 2002, without the proper approval of EVH/AVH and the band HE IS A MEMBER OF, Mike helps PROMOTE a Sammy Hagar TOUR. He doesn't play every gig, but he plays many big shows and helps Sammy sell tickets. On this tour Sammy plays a lot of VH music (music that was mostly "legally" composed by EVH). So Eddie is pissed off that his bass player from his own band is out promoting Sammy, and doing so playing music he wrote. He obviously has the right to play it, but it ticks Eddie off all the same.

    3. Furthermore the whole theme of this 2002 Hagar show is Cabo SL Mexico, the Cabo Wabo tequila, waitresses in bikinis coming onstage acting as erotic bartenders mixing Cabo Wabo "Waboritas", as VH songs are covered during the same showcase. Don't you guys understand that Eddie and Alex hate the fact that Sammy use's the "greatness" of Van Halen's music to promote a fucking restaurant in Mexico, and a brand of bottled tequila??? How the fuck does taking the masterful music of VH and combining it with ONSTAGE PROMOTION of restaurant and food products rightfully happen? I think this is what many of you guys have forgotten here. And Mike was helping him do all this stuff!!!!

    4. On stage in 2002, at the shows I saw at least, were massive life-size cardboard cut-outs of Eddie Van Halen, and Sammy Hagar is fucking punching them in front of 12,000 people. What the hell was that??? There are also large video screen images of drills going through "striped EVH guitars". Pretty sick stuff... I personally didn't think it was funny like some people were making it out to be.

    5. In the DVD based on that 2002 Sam/Dave tour, Sammy leaves in (ie... doesn't edit out) a scene where Mike is referring to the "brothers" as Bevis and Butthead.

    6. During the 2004 tour, Sammy has a "neon palm tree" (nudge-nudge-wink-wink) on a VH STAGE during his solo spot. Cabo Wabo tequila food products are sold at some of the shows. (I don't think they were sold at ALL the shows).

    7. WORST OF ALL.......During the period of time between (2002 to mid-2003) AND (late 2004 to the present), Sammy was constantly insulting and serving up slanderous commentary towards Eddie in approximately 50 different PRINT and BROADCAST interviews (and those are only the ones that I personally came across - I'm sure there were more - Sammy does like to do A LOT of self-promo so I'm sure there are more). This behavior on Sammy's part, in my opinion, was and still is, highly ignorant and un-called for. I noticed that in ALL of these interviews, his statements were given with no proof and with no specific examples to back up anything that he said. It came across in a very casual tone. During this same time I heard nothing similar said by EVH towards Sammy. I think Eddie did say some things bad things towards Sammy during the recent Sept 2006 Stern interview but that was it. (If I am wrong on this... please let me know... he might have only made the sauce comment).

    8. In Mike's Japanese "Burn" magazine interview, earlier in 2006, he voiced complaints about having to "sign away rights"... BUT.. and it's a big BUT... he does not explain exactly WHICH rights he signed away. He also doesn't explain what HE WAS PAID to sign those rights away. SO therefore, Mike is very possibly completely misrepresenting that agreement. Mike through his manager/agent/lawyer would have been paid FAIR VALUE for his rights, and it also would also be helpful to know the exact TYPE of rights that he was refering to. That fact that Mike made a very casual statement about something that needed much more description and clarification was probably something that GREATLY ANGERED Eddie last year. Now, I don't know the exact details about this point, but I do know that it is impossible that Mike was "ripped off" by Van Halen since he had full professional legal representation.

    9. In 2006, another tour goes out on the road PROMOTING Sammy, where Mike again is a willful partner. A lot of Eddie's music is featured and the promotion of a restaurant and alcohol brand continues.

    In Closing:

So here we are in 2007 and people on this board are FREAKING over this Mike issue. From my POV, I can see that Eddie is simply pissed at both of them for the last 6 years. Eddie is especially pissed at Mike because he has helped PROMOTE Sammy Hagar for years, while he probably would not have wanted that to happen.

I think everyone should chill-out and at the least look at both sides of this thing... that's all... just my opinion mind you...

I'm not an Eddie hater. I just don't much like the guy he seems to have become. I'll tell you what, tho - if I ever see him again, you can bet I'll have a GIANT SMILE on my face. 1980s Happy Ed is in there somewhere. I'll smile for that.

Without "proper approval"? Mike has been nothing but a disrespected, contracted bass player for Van Halen for quite some time. Why should he give a shit?

So Sammy's a good businessman... Big damn deal. Stop crying about the dude using songs he helped make popular to sell a product.

Point? The brothers pissed the band away by firing Sammy in the first place. What makes the comparison out of line?

I'd be awfully pissed about trying to promote a tour with a drunken, wacko guitarist, too.

And........... I'm tired of answering your dumbass questions.

Much of that is pretty dead on. Most people here would probably disagree though. I never heard of that life-size Eddie thing- that's so damn childish if true, and my respect for Sammy goes way down
Wolfie is not Mike, but he's more than ok.
Mike is gone, but not forgotten. They played some amazing shows from 2007-2015; some people are in denial about it.

Good post noise. Especially the parts about legal representation, fair value, and the many casual statements made by Mike/Sam.

very well stated. I find that most of the Eddie haters don't have much logic to their hatred, that it's based on feel. I don't get it, but they do have the right to feel that way. I do wonder what they're doing on a Van Halen message board though if they really dislike him that much, I think 9 times out of 10 that they're just frustrated with the lack of anything from the band and Ed is the easist target since it's thought to be his band.

Don't talk about Mike's big butt that way! People hate fat jokes here.

Actually, a really good post IMO. I agree with many points you've raised here.

    Lol.....

Maybe the monetary reimbursement was enough for Mike. I dunno. But he's been treated as a hired gun rather than a member of the band.

On this tour Sammy plays a lot of VH music (music that was mostly "legally" composed by EVH). So Eddie is

pissed off that his bass player from his own band is out promoting Sammy, and doing so playing music he wrote.

He obviously has the right to play it, but it ticks Eddie off all the same.
Mike and Sam also contributed to that music, so it wasn't Ed's alone to "own"; what would Ed have to get mad at? Maybe it's the fact that Sam and Mike were out behaving like real musicians, sharing it with the fans, while he's home barricaded in the studio giving nothing but the middle finger to the rest of the world?

are covered during the same showcase. Don't you guys understand that Eddie and Alex hate the fact that Sammy

use's the "greatness" of Van Halen's music to promote a fucking restaurant in Mexico, and a brand of bottled

tequila??? How the fuck does taking the masterful music of VH and combining it with ONSTAGE PROMOTION of

restaurant and food products rightfully happen? I think this is what many of you guys have forgotten here. And

Mike was helping him do all this stuff!!!!
Uh, yeah, that point would have weight, if it weren't for the fact that Ed just took prostituting Van Halen to an all-new low with his latest forray into Porn Soundtracks.... don't forget this is the same guy who sold "Right Here Right Now" to Pepsi.

large video screen images of drills going through "striped EVH guitars". Pretty sick stuff... I personally didn't think

it was funny like some people were making it out to be.
I'd like to hear about that from a third source; it's all news to me...

A cheap shot, perhaps, but I could forgive that of Mike; I sure as hell have felt frustrated enough to say crap like that about my former idols; Ed and Al are legends, but not gods.

    the shows).
Yep, 2004 was all about cashing in. Not just for Sammy. Remember all the guitars Ed was hawking ON STAGE durring the show? Not to mention the amp rigs, DTuna, etc...

different PRINT and BROADCAST interviews (and those are only the ones that I personally came across - I'm

sure there were more - Sammy does like to do A LOT of self-promo so I'm sure there are more). This behavior on

Sammy's part, in my opinion, was and still is, highly ignorant and un-called for. I noticed that in ALL of these

interviews, his statements were given with no proof and with no specific examples to back up anything that he

said. It came across in a very casual tone. During this same time I heard nothing similar said by EVH towards

Sammy. I think Eddie did say some things bad things towards Sammy during the recent Sept 2006 Stern

interview but that was it. (If I am wrong on this... please let me know... he might have only made the sauce

    comment).
Insults, slander... I think everyone can dig up interviews that show the mud flying from all corners; Mike, Sam, Ed, Dave... If Ed has fewer interviews and less insults attributed to him in print, it's probably because he was less capable of speech than Sam was in those years ;-)

doesn't explain what HE WAS PAID to sign those rights away. SO therefore, Mike is very possibly completely

misrepresenting that agreement. Mike through his manager/agent/lawyer would have been paid FAIR VALUE for

his rights, and it also would also be helpful to know the exact TYPE of rights that he was refering to. That fact that

Mike made a very casual statement about something that needed much more description and clarification was

probably something that GREATLY ANGERED Eddie last year. Now, I don't know the exact details about this

point, but I do know that it is impossible that Mike was "ripped off" by Van Halen since he had full professional

    legal representation.
If Ed pressured Mike to sign away his rights to VH just in order to come on tour in 2004, then I think that qualifies as a rip-off. I'd like to see all the details around that as well...

Again, it's not just Ed's music. The fact that he treats it that way, and expects to have omnipotent veto power over any of the other band members performing it, shows how far off the deep end he's gone into megalomania-land.

has helped PROMOTE Sammy Hagar for years, while he probably would not have wanted that to happen.

Fair enough for Ed to be pissed. But to stoop to the level of booting a decent guy like Mike from the band, just so Ed can exercise greater control over (and gain more monetary returns from) the VH music franchise, is an insult to the fans that helped make him great. So yeah, we're little prone to 'freaking' over the issue...

Does that mean we hate Ed and Al? Not in my case. If I thought they were losers, I wouldn't care at all.

I agree totally with your statement, and know Ed get's inpired to ROCK with his son, so he deciedes to, that's not against Mike, it's simply in favor of his son.
hell I'm going to go see those shows, if they ever come to be!
