Default 81 Oakland or new CD 07?

If everything else is what it is (no fantasy land beyond this question), which would you rather have in your collection: the complete 1983 Oakland show on DVD, or a new VH CD this year with DLR on vocals, EVH on guitar, AVH on drums and WVH on bass?

    I'd take the Oakland show.

    Ditto. Oakland Show. CVH.

A VH version IV album would be interesting. But I doubt there will be any gem that will equal Me Wise Magic.
    DLR, circa 2001:

"Hey this is David Lee Roth and I promised you the news and here's the news.

About a year ago myself and the great Van Halen band played together once or twice and it sounded amazing!

In the following several months Edward and I, Edward Van Halen and me, David Lee Roth, created some of the most amazing, phenomenal - the hands fell off the clock ladies and gentleman and we wrote three astonishing tunes.

That was last July (2000) and since then I haven't been up to the studio, we haven't really been in touch and we haven't made any music, but I am holding forth, I'm in the shape of my life and I got the high note - I'm ready to go.

And I am positive for the future ladies and gentleman.

Stay tuned and I'll tell you what the future brings..."

The famous Oakland show is 1981 actually, I corrected your thread title. Much rather have that complete show than a new album at this point.

    Sorry... newbie question...

May I ask what is so special about this show compared to other live bootlegs... did something special happen at that show?

Sorry if this was explained elsewhere.

    thank you.

    SOME VH LINKS CLASSICS

"Sammy is fat, Dave is bald, Mike is next in line to be the Pope, Eddie is a drunk, Wolfie is fat, Gary is gay, CVH is VH, Mike is VH, Sammy can outsing Dave on a tequilla hangover, Eddie is a meth head, How Many Say I is the worst VH song ever, Up for Breakfast is a close second, Dave was horrible at radio and everybody hates the assless chaps.
Ok I think that covers everything." Ziggysmalls

"I sense that some of our newer passengers may be nervous due to the sudden turbulence. Please be seated, this is simply a normal part of the periodic ride.
I didn't say we'll get to the destination, but until Alex comes out a says what a complete waste of carbon DLR is, we're still climbing, so strap yourselves in.

oakland 81 for me please !! Oh and please deliver it digitally remastered with
all the props for my Plasma.... you know, 5.1 sound etc ...

New tunes would be great, but it doesn't seem to be in the cards
for VH. Let's face it, we're all just hoping they can spend 5 minutes
together withouth incident at the RRHOF..

Someone else may be able to answer better, but I'll give you pretty much the scoop:

There were 3 shows professionally filmed (According to Dave) in Oakland on the Fair Warning tour, and 3 songs from that filming were chosen as videos to be aired on MTV to promote Fair Warning. Basically, all of us here have seen the 3, which are Unchained, Hear about it later and So this is Love, and we want the rest, which is definitely out there somewhere but has never surfaced out of the Warner Bros. vaults, or wherever they are. The big deal to me at least is that this isn't really a bootleg, it is a professionally filmed event(s), so the quality is top notch for a live performance, not some bootleg shot from the nosebleeds with a glorified digital camera.

OK, that being said I'd take the Oakland DVD. No matter what comes out musically these days, I always find myself coming back to cvh ANYWAYS, so why not get something that I know 100% for sure that I'll like. I know I sound like a selfish prick, but dammit I'll take the DVD.

There must be a quality problem or damged film with the Oakland shows, because it would have been released by now... it's been 26 years. Those three videos don't look that good, but they are surely kick ass performances!!!!!

There may or may not be a quality problem, but either way, I just don't think the brothers had any interest in memorializing anything with DLR. Even BOBW featured the live tracks of Sam doing the CVH tunes.

If DLR is really back though, maybe that attitude will change.

I used to wonder why he was grinning all the time(Michael Ian Black talkin about EVH on VH1 I love the 80's) but then i realized the reason he's grinning is because he's Eddie F*#king Van Halen

    Oakland without a doubt.

My brother in law is a huge KISS fan. Those guys release more live, demo, and early video footage than I ever would of thought possible. It's very unfortunate that VH, with their legacy in Rock and Roll wouldn't release ANY earlier material, audio or video.

I guess it goes back to something about a control freak and a guitar player?
