My First Dumbass Move of 2007 (You Cold Weather Types Will Love This)
So, we're having a cold-snap. Last night it dropped to 26 degrees.
That happens once every three or four years, no biggie. Anyway, at the end of my shift (11:30pm) I head out to my truck to go home. As usual, I toss the water from my cup onto the windshield to them run the wipers and clear the gook that collects durring the day. It was around 28 degrees when I did this....
Yep, as I'm running my wipers I hear this scraping sound and I look up and damned if the water hadn't frozen. So I've got this big smear that I can't see through. No problem, I've got Windex, Amonia doesn't freeze! **Squirt Squirt** well, fuck me, Amonia does freeze! I must have missed that in Chemistry class. (Come to think of it, they pretty much covered what was flamable, not what would freeze. Maybe I just remembered the stuff that would burn. Oh well). Defeated, I go back inside and I grab a key-card(like a credit card) and went out and scraped the ice off of my windshield. I got most of it off and then drove off. I still had a small, annoying patch but I could see and that was fine. About fifteen minutes later I notice the ice start to melt. My brain mulled this over longer than it should have until I realized that I had the heater on and the widshield had heated up enough to melt the remaining ice.
So all I had to do was sit there and crank the heat and defrost the windshield

I'm paying for something right now, that I did about a week and a half ago. I have a bad radiator hose but the auto parts store didn't have the right one. With the car getting a little hotter than I would like due to the hose collapsing and not allowing water to flow properly, I ended up taking the thermostat out until I can get a new hose. So now I don't have any heat in the car. We got a major ice storm here in southeast Kansas yesterday, and it made it more than interesting getting back and forth from work the last two days. I have no choice but to use the ice scraper.
At least I was smart enough to put it in my coat pocket, as the doors were frozen shut on both days when leaving work. I believe that on Monday or Tuesday I will be getting a new radiator hose and putting a new thermostat in as well.

Well it was 5 degrees last night so we're getting nice and chilly here. I usually run out to the car and start it up, crank up the rear defrost and the heater and run like hell back into the house!
At least it does warm up eventually. I hate this cold weather we're having!RIP - Classic Van Halen

Axxman, you wouldn't last 2 minutes up here in the frozen north!
It was -29C here for the past few days. Windchill was -34C. It takes me 15-20 mins to walk to work. The one thing I forgot to wear was my scarf - man did my cheeks and nose freeze on me. Luckily, I didn't get any frostbite. At least it will be warmer here in a few days (0 to -3C).

My six-year-old car has not yet had its battery replaced. We FINALLY got cold here in MN this week, and sure enough Friday night my car wouldn't start. I was already late getting to a recording session, so I called the lads in the band I was producing and had them come over to try and jump start my car. We tried, it wouldn't start, so they just gave me a lift to the studio (they are all high school seniors, by the way). After the session was over (about 1:00 AM), they tried convincing me to go TP-ing with them. I actually had to argue my way out of it. Instead I had them drive me to my mother's house where I was storing my battery charger. That's right--I had high schoolers bring me to my mom's house. It was a very bazaar evening of chaos and time warps.
I retired from TP-ing at age 18.

Here all you East Coasters can laugh. It's 1:00 AM and we've been having some cold weather here in Cali like Axxman said. So I walked over to this remote weather thing I have, and the thing says 31 degrees, and 31 degrees in So Cal is like -20 everywhere else. We got the freaking heater cranked, I feel like I'm in Antarctica, and I am debating whether to wear a sweatshirt to bed. Now laugh!

We got a nice coat of freezing rain last night. I'm looking forward to driving to church in a little while. I love how people forget how to drive when there is a little snow, ice or rain out.

Two words - auto start.
Just have to remember to preset the heating system.
My freshman year in college (in NH), we went to FL over winter break for some games (hoop team). When we left campus at like 6am it was -25 F, which is cold even for there. We got to Orlando it was sunny and 69. We were all in shorts and t-shirts, a bunch of the guys even went swimming in the outdoor pool. The natives thought we were NUTS, they all had coats on. Fuck it, that was almost a 100 degree difference to us.
It's all relative.

We get these cold-snaps about every five years, ice is something in your Vodka. Driving out this afternoon I saw that the ice was 1/4 inch thick in the roadside puddles. Right now it's 5o degrees, which is the warmest it's been at this time in three days. On the coast, nothing is designed for cold weather.
I'm not complaining though, I don't even have a heater in my home right now, so it's been an adventure. The trick is to warm the house by doing a lot of cooking.
