If Roth does tour this year, it WILL NOT be 90% VH material.

.... I'd be very surprised if this new guitar player is just a stand-in Eddie VH clone - no dis-respect to Bart Walsh, the guy plays VH like the records - but I don't wanna see my hero reduced to a novelty act for another tour.

Anyways, the '99 and '01 tours were basically fun tours for DLR - he wasn't promoting new material - the '99 tour was NOT in support of DLR Band - that cd's tour was cancelled when J. Lowery bailed. This time Dave will be promoting a cd and accompanying DVD (it looks like anyway???).

I think with those tours, he thought - 'I haven't sung some of those classics in years - and with Eddie looking for a singer...."

This new guitarist could be a great boost to DLR's career - I know, he needs decent label support - but who know's? - maybe somethings lined up.

I'm thinking (and hoping) that Bart Walsh was 'encouraged' to start something new.

Well I would enjoy a 50% DLR solo, and 50% VH show from ROTH, with the show being about 2 hours, now that would be very kool!!!!!!

I want to see Dave do a setlist that is comprised of 80% solo material, with the odd Van Halen tune thrown in. And I want the Van Halen tunes to be obscure ones, not Jump or Panama or Hot For Teacher etc. Another thing is I'd like these songs to be mixed up somewhat, you don't have to play the same setlist night after night.

For VH tunes, I'd like to hear Women In Love, Bottoms Up!!, Fools, or Secrets. Those great songs that are less well know, but that I think Dave could still kick the shit out of.

As for solo work, there's a ton that I'd prefer to hear before hearing Dave and his band play the VH material over and over. A list of DLR solo tunes I'd love to hear live would be

Experience
Black Sand
Perfect Timing
Two Fools A Minute
Ladies Night In Buffalo
Big Trouble
Lady Luck
Tell the Truth
The Dogtown Shuffle (One of Dave's finest EVER)
Night Life
She's My Machine
Right Tool For the Job
Coconut Grove (the GEM of CFTH)

I really think these are songs that suit Dave's style the best right now. His trouble zone is when he gets into the faster paced stuff like Light Up the Sky, Romeo Delight or Little Guitars.

This is a good topic, I'm going to send it to the Opinions/Speculation forum. Keep it going.
