They could do them, but they won't sound as good. But it seems Eddie just cares about getting his kid in the band, not how good the band will sound. So there is nothing we can do about it.

I am sure that they are weeding through the catalog. What he can handle what he can't. But you have to remember Dave has his limitations also. So it could be interesting.
Although I am not in favor of the whole idea of Mike getting snubbed. I am witing to see how this all plays out. Like Dave said it like NASCAR. Am I here to see the winner or the crash. I still haven't decided. Maybe a little of both. Who will win and who will crash on the way to the finish line.

I don't think Wolfie will have any say in what the band plays, he'll just be told we're playing this...
“And what we have at our fingertips is arguably one of the greatest high tenor voices ever – that was in Michael Anthony. In our tiny little corner of the universe, that voice is as identifiable as the high voice in Earth, Wind & Fire, as identifiable as the high voice in the Beach Boys. Van Halen is an indelicate house blend of both – that’s intentionally. So I would always look forward to that reunion.” - David Lee Roth

I think it would unless Wolfie can sing even remotely close as good as Mike.

Since nobody has heard Wolfie play/sing, I guess it will still remain a mystery.

If they had gotten to him before puberty, he could have pulled off Mike's harmonies. But now that he's almost 16, I expect his balls have dropped and his voice wouldn't be too far behind !

What did Dave do for the live harmonies in his band ?

The times I've seen Dave, Jake Lomenzo, Brian Young and Ray Luzier all handled backing vocals.

It wasn't even close, but still good.

    I'm thinking pre-recorded backing tracks....Lukather and a few dudes....
Actually I think most of us are Dave, Sam, and Mike fans. There's just a small group of people who have strange allegiances and like to get into petty pissing contests that I can't believe everyone on this site isn't bored of. - Brett

Why not do a Motley Crue and hire a pair of female backing singers? Honestly, how could it hurt? I sure as hell do not want to hear something like "Little Dreamer" minus the vocal support. Quite frankly it would fall flat.

If folk are so damned obsessed with the visual aspect, then let the singers stand backstage. It's not like one see's anybody "playing" keyboards for "Jump". Why would it honestly make a differance?

I have enough trouble remembering my bass lines to begin with. The added responsibility of singing (back-up or God forbid, lead) is rather overwhelming for me, and I've been playing for more than 3 months.

How do we know he can't sing high even if he has hit puberty? Mike can grow a beard and can still sing high at 51 so evidently it did not kill him. Same with Peter Cetera, Rik Emmet, Dave Matthews, the guys in Def Leppard, Steve Perry, Tommy Shaw, etc. They all can get up there so I don't think puberty is the end all be all.

Now whether he can get up that high and have a good pitch is something totally different.

I can get up that high but my pitch has more curves then a Victoria's Secret catalog. My balls did drop but now my wife is in possession of them.

Anyway I am going to take a wait and see approach. Before the Winston's kicked in, Eddie was a very good background singer. Pitch was lower then Mike's but it takes two to harmonize and only one to screw it up. Since Mike is noted for his skill with background vocals, chances are Eddie was doing his job too supporting him underneath. Maybe Wolfgang got that gene from Eddie. If not then its up to Val. Her genes are the key.

I agree, if they must exclude Mike, hire a couple good backup singers to round out the sound. Why do it half-ass? In my opinion, vocals are as important as the music.
