Sammy is a Genius
I have to give Sammy his due. I read this at Blabbermouth and have finally realized Hagar is brilliant. He has his limited fan base from his solo works, keeps MA around to keep the VH-Hagar fans happy and now will be tapping into a real hot fan base by teaming up with Chad Smith. Along with all the Cabo merchandise he peddles he really knows how keep the money flowing.
Launch Radio Networks reports: Sammy Hagar won't be on the road much this year, besides a few gigs with his group the WABORITAS and his induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of VAN HALEN. But that's not to say that he doesn't have plans to make new music. Hagar has been performing recently at his Cabo Wabo Cantina in Mexico with former VAN HALEN bassist Michael Anthony and RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS drummer Chad Smith, and he told Launch the three of them might hit the studio together. "We're thinking about, when the CHILI PEPPERS tour is over, about doing a little record," he said. "Not a permanent thing, but we've been calling ourselves CHICKEN FOOT down here, you know? A power trio. And it's so much fun playing in a power trio, you know? I haven't done it in a long time, playing all the guitar, and, and Mike and I singing together. It's pretty strong, man, it's a pretty exciting band. So we're thinking about going in the studio, and maybe making a record."
The CHILI PEPPERS wrap up their North American dates March 7 in Houston, then head to Japan and Australia for shows between March 19 and April 19.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony is March 12 in New York City. This year's honorees also include PATTI SMITH, R.E.M., GRANDMASTER FLASH & THE FURIOUS FIVE, and the RONETTES.
I personally do not like Sammy Hagar. I can't stand his voice, his lyrics etc. but I do respect the man for his business smarts. He always stays busy and always turns a profit. Kudos Mr. Hagar.

Besides being a good businessman, Hagar does the unthinkable.....he gets along with people, enjoys life, and has fun while doing that. Crazy concept, I know.

I Got into VH cause I knew Sammy was a genius and that was back in 86. "5150" was the album.
Hes straight down the line, says it like it is, and is good buisness like too.
I agree hes got a reasonably small solo fanbase, but does he give his fans 100 percent, I love the guy. Hes the best ever.
"Livin it up" was the first solo album he'd done that took a few listens though.....
That dont matter though, its only one album. He'll deliver next time whether its Chickenfoot or one foot. What is understood need not be discussed

Whether you like him or not, he's a musician through and through. He lives for music. Loves to play, listen, create. He is also a showman, who loves to be in the spotlight. I just wish Ed wanted to get his music out there as much as Sammy allready does. Before the replies start coming. Sure much of Sammys solo stuff has been sort of lack luster, but atleast he is creating music, and putting it out there for people to take or leave it.
I would really dig some new music from Eddie, in whatever direction he felt like going.Money can't buy you happiness, but it can buy you a yacht big enough to pull up right alongside it. DLR

You know I don't know what made me go to his show at the Fabulous Forum back in about 1982. But I am damn sure that I did. I was just a concert junkie back then. If the doors were open I would go. I became a Redhead on that night. Let me tell you he has aged graciously.
Don't get me wrong VH has been and always will be my all time favorite with Dave or with Sam. I take what I can get. But it sure seems that Sam hasn't done any wrong career wise.

Hes very smart, I know that......thats why hes lasted so long, but more than that, he looks good and looks after himself. Man, you would'nt think this guy is 60 next year. I know guys who are 50 and look 10 years older than Sammy

Sammy does what he does because he enjoys it. Yes, I'm sure money has a little to do with it but the man enjoys making music and being fan-friendly. I think a lot of musicians should take note of what he does.

What people? 99% of people on this site? Everyone that follow the Peppers sure as hell know who he is.
The fan base that the Chilli Peppers have is rather large, they are probably one of the hottest bands around.
They have been on top for years now. If you mean 99% of people worldwide you are correct but anybody into music will certainly know Chad Smith.

The name Chad Smith didn't ring any of my bells, until it was mentioned that he's the drummer for RHCP.
As far as Michael Anthony- I believe the two are the best of friends. Sammy isn't just "keeping the VH-Hagar fans happy." And dammit- Michael is awesome!!
Personally, I think it's good for musicians to shuffle the deck every now and then. It makes them look at everything with a different perspective and hopefully, a new outlook on the music they play. It keeps them fresh. I'd be behind this situation.
