So a choral group from Yale is performing at a private party in San Francisco. Some teenagers from a rich, Catholic school crash the party and start calling the men's choir "Fags". Words are exchanged and the rich Catholic boys call for back-up, 'cause they're street, yo. Later, as the Yale guys are leaving the party, they are jumped and monkey-stomped by more rich, WHITE, Catholic school boys.

The police are called.

The Rich, white, Catholic school boys are questioned and released, even as ambulances take away the wounded Yale guys.

Why? Well, two of the boys are sons of a prominent San Francisco surgeon, who is also politically connected. PLUS (oh, it get's better) turns out that the SFPD and this Catholic School are tight, as many senior department officers went to this school and send their own spawn to this school.

If you beat someone up in San Francisco, and you call them a Fag while you're doing it then technically it's a hate crime. However, since none of the Yale guys are gay, the police didn't feel the need to pursue this.

Here's a very simple question:

If the Yale guys had been assaulted by African-Americans, Asian or Hispanic teenagers, what do you think the response from the police department would have been?

Axx, I think what it comes down to is that money is what got these kids off the hook, not their race. Either way, it's not right. I hope that the kid who instigated this gets the book thrown at him.

I don't understand why these rich white Catholic school kids had to call these students from Yale "fags," when there's so many people that LIVE in San Francisco that they could have called "fags."

Seriously, I don't see why race is an issue here. Why must we always label things, in this case "rich, white, catholic?" Why can't we just say 'school kids' attacked a Yale choir.
It's like a previous post mentioned, it's money, power and corruption that is the root of this story not race.

I'm not going to discount the race issue in America, because obviously there are issues there that matter, but... I do think that race is just the red herring that diverts our attention away from the real problem.

The real divide is not race. Its money. Pure and simple. Rich white people don't pay for their crimes, Rich black/asian/indian/whatever people don't either. Rich PEOPLE don't pay for crime in the same way that poor people do. It just doesn't impact them to the degree that it does the poor. They just buy their way out of it, use connections to get out of it, or if they do pay a fine, so what? A ten thousand dollar fine, for example, is nothing to them. It barely registers in their pocketbook.

The wealthy get advantages that the poor don't, in a million different ways. Connections, networks, interest rates, insurance breaks, and a host of other things, some of which are patently illegal for the common person. If anyone believes that a rich stock broker doesn't get information that the commoner can't then they are just plain stupid, and I'm talking about the really illegal kind of information.. that pre-knowledge that you aren't supposed to talk about but do anyway... because who cares? You sure don't. You're making millions, and the guys who are supposed to police you are too, and they know some guys who will make it alllllll goooood.

The race issue is just there to divert our poor minds like a carnival coming to town does. I firmly believe that. Ooooh the pretty lights... I will pay attention to them and forget about my real problems for a while.

meh... but that is just my opinion... Money talks, BS walks, as the saying goes, and as long as we all focus on race, we'll just ignore the growing chasm between us and them ( us being all races who got five dollars unitl payday, and THEM being the ones who don't even bother with carrying a disgusting thing like real money )
