The Pad lock... why?

This has been posted a few times, but I have to add to this feedback. What is with padlocking threads so fast? I know very well about cry babies who want to free post anything they damn wish and yell "free country" and all that when you try and get things under control. I run message boards myself and deal with dickheads like that all the time. But wow I thought I was a overbearing moderator on my boards.. next time I get feed back about how I run things I am going to send them over here.

In my short time here.. I can tell you please lay off the pad lock.. just a little or your going to send readers away.... now go ahead and lock this up.

Uh it has nothing to do with dickheads, it has to do with MULTIPLE threads on the same topic.

This is the way the site has been run for 7 years, and will continue to. How it puts readers off is beyond me. What they can't read a closed thread?

You run your message board your way, we'll run ours our way. It's got nothing to do with overbearing mods, it has to do with having an organized, clean, board. Dozens of threads on the same topic is not something that I like having. How many freaking times does this need to be defended?

When you get new readers like myself you have no idea how many times a given subject has been discussed. Not to mention one subject my fav being Mike A right now could go off in one of many directions. I am sure you have seen all such directions on every subject, as I have seen the situations on the boards I run. And I can understand if threads where getting long winded and pointless. But again lets take my very first post about Mike A not being in the band. I made a site called nomikenohalen.com and asked people to check it out. 2 posts later.. locked up.. saying there was no real "topic" here. No feed back on the site.. (good or bad) nothing. It should not be assumed that I can read every single post this mod saw. I would have been more then happy to move myself to another thread.. but nope.. just locked up and that was it.

Thats how new readers can be put off.

Should we allow it to go on and be called "spam," which is what the Army posters thought of you posting the link there. Right?

BTW, the link wasn't deleted, people could visit your site, it's not like we removed it or anything. If you want people to comment about your site, wouldn't you want them to do it on your site?
