    Default the capital years

I have most of Sammy's old stuff from his capital record days. I have heard that the contract he signed with them had him putting out 2 albums a year and touring to support them. While there are some filler songs alot of the stuff is pretty damn good. I think This Planets on Fire (Burn in Hell) is one of the coolest songs Sammy ever recorded.

What's everybody else's opinion of the Capital years and what do you think are the standout tracks?

Any good stories from this time period?

I love the red album, musical chairs is pretty good, street machine is excellent, thought Danger Zone went off-course a bit though. Over here in the UK the albums were quite hard to get hold of originally, picked most of mine up as radio-station/demo versions from specialist shops.

Love or Money from Danger Zone is a pretty Bad ass song, I "think" Niel Schon plays guitar on that one. I also think the guy from Boston was going to produce it but it never happened. I actually think Into the Night (entering the danger zone) is a really bad ass song, there's a version of it on "Live 80" that kicks major ass.

"Growing Pains" is a damn good song, I also love "Run For Your Life", which I think is some excellent vocals. "Don't Stop Me Now" sounds awesome at first, but the chorus is totally weak, Hagar completely removes his foot from the gas pedal and it really kills what could've been a great song. Aside from that, I like his Capitol stuff.

There is a ton of his albums from Cap. that are cutout's. Discontinued records sold at a loss to defray costs. They have been taken out of circulation and are not available anymore.

Plain Jane was a cool, mellow song from that era. The live 80 cd is a good live performance. I love "Make It Last", This Planet's on fire and Love or Money.

Yeah, I always look but can't find any of them. Therefore, I do not have any of the Capitol albums. Would like to, but don't.

I've got all Sammys albums on vinyl and CD. The capitol ones included. If you were in Australia, particurely Brisbane and The Gold Coast, you'd get them all in our record collectable shows. I got the "Street machine' record again recently and made a cool wall frame out of it. The back cover of "Street machine" is one cool photo.
Yes, those years were cool......especially "The Red album", thats in my top 5 Sammy solo albums.
"Nine on a ten scale" was patchy
"Red album" very good.......you gotta listen to "Free money", awesome stuff
"Musical chairs" has its moments, but cool
"Street machine" has "Plain jane" on it, one of his best ever and catchy, but again patchy
"Danger zone" was not his best in my opinion

Top 5 songs of this period are-
    1. Free money
    2. Plain Jane
    3. Red
    4. Little star/Eclipse
    5. Turn up the music
What is understood need not be discussed

"Dont disturb my paradise. I've asked you once. I've asked you nice" - "SERIOUS JU JU"

"I am in a blissful state. Dont bug me!!!" - Richard Dreyfuss "The Goodbye girl" 1977

alot of those are rereleases of Sam's stuff by capital, they own all the rights so when you would see vh release a cd you'd see some cheesy "greatet hits" package of his capital days stuff rereleased, theys still do it all the time. I think when BOBW was released they released "classics remastered" and so on and so forth...

sammy doesn't make a dime off of those.

Nope he doesn't. The stupid "Classic Masters" series has a Hagar compilation that is also called "The Best of Sammy Hagar", and they're the same damn thing. Like the above post mentioned, since the albums were taken out of circulation these stupid compilations have been renamed, reissued and spread out to make some money. Even his Geffen stuff is hard to get, I found VOA in a bin at a pawn shop, Three Lock Box was in another pawn shop and I had to buy Standing Hampton of off amazon.ca
Anyways, I also love Love Or Money, Cruisin' and Boozin', and "Space Station #5" on Red hot! is killer.

As a completist, I'd love to get all his stuff, but I only have a few of his Capitol albums on cd. I think I may have some vinyl I got at record shows, but I honestly don't remember what, and I couldn't play them anyway.

Someone else mentioned Turn Up The Music. Damn, that's gotta be my favorite. Also loved Urban Geurilla, Planet's On Fire (Burn In Hell) - one of the coolest riffs, and The Iceman. I still wanna cover Iceman sometime. I think everyone forgot about that song, or I stand alone as a fan of it.

Ice man was a great song..." All leaned off to one side ya know".

Street Machine is the best Sammy album I think
