Default VH1 40 Greatest Metal Songs

Hi, did just see VH1's ranking-programme with Sebastian Bach from Skidrow.

What the hell was that? Doesn't the greatest Metal songs include bands as Van Halen, Led Zeppln, Queen, and you name em?

Why for damn sake did they just take hardcore death metal-songs which I almost haven't heard.

That was a sick ranking. Paranoid and Smoke on the Water as 37, and 40.. and Iron Man as 1st.

Can anybody explain this madness? I was so pissed off the whole programme!
    Thanks for answers guys!

Sorry!... I've never seen this type of programing. Here in Ohio, music channels have all been replaced with reality outlets.

that may actually be sensible as i don't think Halen, Zep or Queen are "heavy metal" bands and i don't most consider them metal. They may show up in VH1's 40 best rock song list, if they don't then i agree with you.

There's your answer. Halen, Zep and Queen are rock, or what Roth calls Big Rock not Metal.

I can't understand people who think the #1 filter for it being Heavy Metal is long hair.

VH also didn't make the cut in VH1's 20 Greatest Hip Hop Songs either.

Jump did make the Top 20 of VH1's 100 Greatest Videos of the 80's though.

    Who cares. They're defunct anyway.
Sammy did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it.

if I'm not mistaken, VH does show up on VH1's "top heavy metal bands" list - which is wrong also. They're not a heavy metal band, and don't play heavy metal songs, no?

VH1 has always been a touch on the lame side anyway. Remember....this is the station that once hired that windbag Rosie O'Donell.

I've discovered a 100% fool-proof formula for ridding oneself of frustration that often accompanies dissatisfaction with "Top XX" lists compiled by establishments such as VH1 and Rolling Stone. Here it is...

Don't watch/read them. They suck. There's about a 99% chance you'll be let down in one fashion or another, and their opinion isn't really worth much more than yours.

    Default Once and for all...

VH ARE metal, at least in the historical sense. When the term was originally
coined, it was being used to describe Steppenwolf or Iron Butterfly or
something. Subsequently, critics used the term "heavy metal" to categorize
the hardest stuff around at the time: BOC, Thin Lizzy, Ted Nugent, Led Zep,
    Queen, VH, Ram Jam, whatever.

So why NONE of these bands would be considered 'heavy' by most of
todays standards, they are in fact, more categorically "heavy metal"
than any Death Metal or Grind Metal or Nu Metal band you can name.
Get over it or find a new term for Triddilin and Temple of Bottom and whatnot.
    That ain't "heavy metal".

That was exactly what I thought too, thats why I got so upset. If Paranoid and Iron Man is heavey metal, shouln't songs like RWTD or atleast I'm the one, of the whole Van Halen 1 Album for that matter be classified as heavey metal?

Nothing was as hard as them when they came.
    Shame on VH1

I saw this on VH1 I think last summer. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Def Leppard's "High & Dry" on that top 40 list? I remember thinking what? Def Leppard? I'm a Def Leppard fan, but I was sorta stunned to see their music appear on any type of "metal" list.
