yeah vai tends to play lifeless, and overcompressed and without any 'emotion'.
mostly i kinda see it as he is just so technically profficient that he gets bored if he's not just doing the whizbang stuff. i've seen/heard him play some srv stuff over the years and other 'rhythm centric' covers and he just looks plain bored playing that stuff.
but damn, i had no idea sheehan was that good. the fucker is keeping right up with vai! in a way sheehan kinda stole that bit there, vais guitar sounds like a pussy next to the bass.
damn.
both are superb musicians and technicians tho.
