Default EVH with Alice In Chains?

I've been gettin (back) into Alice in Chains recently. I saw them open for VH in 1991(?) at the Providence Civic Center. I've been watchin some of Alice's stuff on YouTube and someone posted a comment that when they saw Alice In Chains open for VH around that time that they saw EVH off to the side of the stage jammin along with AIC during "Man In The Box". I've never heard that beore...can anyone confirm or deny this?

Also, I recommend people check out "Nutshell" and "Over Now" from Alice In Chains' Unplugged performance (they're on YouTube)....quite rad.

Jerry Cantrell has confirmed this. He said Ed was standing in the pit between the stage and security, playing along.

Cantrell is a super nice guy too. I own a music store in southestern Oklahoma and Jerry has a ranch right up the road. One day he was shopping in a grocery store (in the shopping center my store was originally located in) and the bass player in my band worked in the meat market. My buddy calls me up and says "Jerry Cantrell is here in the store." I looked outside a few minutes later and there was this big ole hippy putting groceries in a beat up old truck. I walked over and introduced myself and left it at that. A few minutes later he walked in my store and asked if I would rent him some equipment because the gear he had belonged to Dimebag Darrel and he was needing it back. I told him absolutely and shot the shit for a few minutes and that was that. Super nice, normal fellow.

Yeah, for at least one leg of the F.U.C.K. tour AIC opened for VH (unfortunately not in my town).

At one time you could look up past tour dates on the official VH website and see who the opener was.

unless my memory is completely off base, and i'm pretty certain it isn't -- when i saw the FUCK tour in portland in the winter of 91 (jan, or feb i think), AIC joined VH during the VH set and they played Man In The Box.
i'm pretty certain i saw that. i was, however, drunk. but it's one of the distinct memories i have from that show.
    SOME VH LINKS CLASSICS

"Sammy is fat, Dave is bald, Mike is next in line to be the Pope, Eddie is a drunk, Wolfie is fat, Gary is gay, CVH is VH, Mike is VH, Sammy can outsing Dave on a tequilla hangover, Eddie is a meth head, How Many Say I is the worst VH song ever, Up for Breakfast is a close second, Dave was horrible at radio and everybody hates the assless chaps.
Ok I think that covers everything." Ziggysmalls

"I sense that some of our newer passengers may be nervous due to the sudden turbulence. Please be seated, this is simply a normal part of the periodic ride.
I didn't say we'll get to the destination, but until Alex comes out a says what a complete waste of carbon DLR is, we're still climbing, so strap yourselves in.
Those of you who have been on this ride before, the hottie in the mini will be around shortly with your drinks......." Red

they also opened for vh in toronto and for the record i thought they sucked. my opinion could have been influenced by the fact i was there to see vh and couldn't give a shit who opened. regardless i'm glad others enjoyed the band and for the prick everyone thinks eddie is, he has usually been pretty good to opening acts and supported them, unlike a lot of headline acts.

Very true. BTO said good things about them. As did Jasin Todd of Shinedown.
He thanked Edward for the "smoking gun."

Wonder if he meant smoking loon?

Saw AIC during this tour and am I glad I did. Pretty good show. Edward seemed to like their sound, from what I recall in interviews back then. Think he was onto something.

Another story about Eddie and AIC is that after the tour, Jerry opened up his garage and there was a bunch of amps and guitars from Eddie in there. Eddie remembered hearing Jerry complain about not having a lot of money to buy gear and stuff so he helped him out.

I saw AIC open for Van Halen on that tour. Indianapolis. I remember AIC played at a club in Cincinnati the night before. Layne was sick at both shows and I remember at the Indy show at deer creek he said nothing to the crowd the whole show except, "here is a new song. If you like it cool, if not fuck it" and they played "Would?" We did also see Ed periodically on the side of the stage during their set. I remember Ed talking about how much he dug Jerry.
