Taxes
Taxes
What Happened? At first I thought this was funny...then I realized
the awful truth of it. Read ALL
Tax his land,
Tax his bed,
Tax the table
At which he's fed.
Tax his tractor,
Tax his mule,
Teach him taxes
Are the rule.
Tax his cow,
Tax his goat,
Tax his pants,
Tax his coat.
& ;nbs p; Tax his ties,
Tax his shirt,
Tax his work,
Tax his dirt.
Tax his tobacco,
Tax his drink,
Tax him if he
Tries to think.
Tax his cigars,
Tax his beers,
If he cries, then
Tax his tears.
Tax his car,
Tax his gas,
Find other ways
To tax his ass
;&nbs p; Tax all he has
Then let him know
That you won't be done
Till he has no dough.
When he screams and hollers,
Then tax him some more,
Tax him till
He's good and sore.
Then tax his coffin,
Tax his grave,
Tax the sod in
Which he's laid.
Put these words
upon his tomb,
"Taxes drove me
to my doom..."
&nb sp;
When he's gone,
Do not relax,
Its time to apply
The inheritance tax.

COMMENTS: Not one of these taxes existed 100 years
ago, and our nation was the most prosperous in the world.
We had absolutely no national debt, had the largest middle
class in the world, and Mom stayed home to raise the kids.
What happened?
And I still have to "press 1" for English.

A bit misleading, I know at least two of those taxes don't apply to individuals, only to business.
Hmmm...well, If you want the government to:
pave your roads
inspect those buildings so they don't fall on your thick head
establish standards to protect and inspect the food you eat so your kids don't get sick
educate you and your kids since you apparently aren't smart enough to
keep you (relatively) safe
put out your fires
arrest those who actually did you wrong, vs. those you think did you wrong
try to keep your water sources from being polluted to the point of killing you
keep a standing military to do all the dirty shit to protect your way of life
provide a park or playground for your kids to play in
support television programming (PBS) that doesn't teach your kids to cheat, swear, drink and screw, since you won't
Shall I go on?
Simplistic shit like this email is what's actually wrong - try coming up with solutions instead of just bitching about what you in your ignorance see as the problem. Everyone wants everything to be all better, nobody wants to pay for it, and nobody has a clue how to do it, but they'll all send out useless, misleading emails that accomplish nothing. This country USED to have people that were actually accountable for their behavior, instead of just whining. What happened?

Gee, IED, you're such a BUZZKILL! But you are also right.
These emails are typically misleading and simplistic, but I think they're mainly just a source of catharsis for a few minutes before being sent to the trash folder or forwarded on to others. I sure hope there's no one stirring up a call to arms over one of these emails.
It's frustrating in that a lot of taxes seem like duplicate taxes, and then when you hear of the misuse of that money it really raises the hackles. Congressional pay raises, pork projects, money designated for "A" going to "B" instead, etc. One can only wonder if a: the money was used properly and b: everybody paid their fair share (yes, Rollie Fingers, I'm talking about you! ), one wonders how much our individual burden would actually be.

Yeah, well, my post was a venting opportunity as well. So I guess the email served a counter purpose...
And smithjc - well, uh, yeah, they do. Regardless of how necessary they may be.
And I'm all for accountability in how the taxes get used, no doubt about it. I just get tired of people bitching about what they don't know much about when they have no suggestions for solutions. Well, that and I've had a shitty day.

I hate taxes but pay them without complaint.
The key is to be aware of what is going on in your city, county, State and Federal representatives are doing. If they are supporting a bad idea, you write letters and drop by their office and get in someone's face.
Then, if you don't like how they do their jobs, you vote for someone else at the next election.
It's just that simple. The problem is that people would rather bitch than vote.
The people that say voting doesn't make any difference aren't paying attention and are probably too stupid to have extra money anyway. While I hate taxes, I pay them knowing that my representatives know what I think and in a way it's almost worth the price."Nothing is ever what it seems but everything is exactly what it is." - B. I just got an interesting email that kind of pertains to this thread.
If someone has to pass a piss test to earn the wages that are taxed, shouldn't the welfare receipient also pass the same piss test to collect the funds provided by the tax?
I know this would add to the bureauracracy(sp?) but I think it is a pretty good idea."Here's to swimmin' with bow legged women."

Interestingly enough around 1940 when the U.S. was getting close to war and was actively supporting the British, taxes at the time were paid around 90% by corperations. Now they pay about 2%. The pandemonium of the war allowed this to go unnoticed, and it never reversed. At least in a country heavily taxed, like Sweden, secondary education is paid for by taxes.

1) Legalize hemp in all forms (industrial, medicinal, recreational). This would not only bring IN tax revenue from the sales, but would CUT the tax money wasted on paying police to arrest stoners and for state prisons to house them.
2) Eliminate all tax loopholes for the rich and make them pay their fair share.
3) Destroy the self perpetuating criminal monster known as the "military- industrial complex" and audit every goddamned penny so that money spent on the defense of this country actually goes to the military and not to the Halliburtons and Bechtels of the world.
Do these three things and we'll be drowning in so much tax revenue that (once Chimpy's debt is paid off) the middle class might not have to pay taxes at all anymore.Eat Us And Smile
