MelodicRock had another VH update... or better: even two... one on Ed's health and the reunion and the other on Ed's guitar (the DD Tour Frankenstrat).

Ok, here we go:

EDDIE NOW CANCER FREE - VAN HALEN ROADSHOW ALMOST READY:
Eddie Van Halen's wife Valerie Bertinelli appeared on American TV network ABC this week, on the popular show Live with Regis and Kelly and spoke of recent health problems with her husband.
She basically confirmed what most people have been hoping for - that Eddie is cancer free and fit and healthy.
She confirmed that the recent press release by Eddie regarding last years cancer scare was released to stop speculation about the guitarist's health.

It's great to hear that Eddie is well, but you would have to say that his own statement didn't clear things up as well as it was intended to. The actual time line for Ed's cancer scare started in June last year and I heard that he was cleared by the end of the year.
In my own humble opinion, the timing of Eddie's press release was as much to quash rumors and appease the patient fans, as it was to begin squaring things away before the next phase of the band's plans unfold.
Now Val's news is being widely reported, but I do have some separate news on developments within the Van Halen camp.
The re-union is most certainly back on everyone's agenda and rumors that the band is not committed to a new David Lee Roth album and tour are totally false.
In fact, this arrived in my mailbox this week, from a regular source, passing on what he was told. Naturally like everything else, it can't be confirmed officially, but I think it's worth a mention:
"The papers for the Van Halen with David Lee Roth reunion were signed last week. It's officially / legally a go. Eddie is fine, the media blew his condition way out of proportion. The tour is being planned for early next year, with the recording process to begin immediately".
More news as soon as possible.

EDDIE VAN HALEN GUITAR - THE CONCLUSION:
Over a few weeks I have been running the story regarding a certain guitar originally owned by Eddie Van Halen. I have the full and concluding details of this guitar story - from the actual current owner of the guitar!
I was e-mailed by the owner after he saw my story online. After the article appeared online the guitar he had arranged to sell back to Eddie Van Halen was given back to him with Eddie's blessing to sell it. The owner, Rodney Poplin, wanted to set the record straight and has sent me all the details of the guitar.
Those details from Rodney are as follows:
"I have a 1982 Kramer prototype guitar that was built for Edward Van Halen.
Kramer only made a few of these and they are very very rare. They were intended for backups of EVH's frankenstart on the Diver Down tour. This particular guitar has a blue headstock and is the only known model ever made with one.
I have had this guitar since 1985. I purchased it from a Kramer employee who was given the guitar from the President of Kramer Guitars. This guitar was used in a ad back in 1983-84 for Heavy Metal Guitar Strings. This was done before I received the guitar from the previous owner. There has been many different stories about this guitar and no one will come forward and go on record to say YES this is one of Ed's guitars.
I do have a letter from the employee who built the guitar for Edward back in1982. He states that the guitar was built for Edward and that the President of Kramer did not like the blue headstock. The bridge was broken on the guitar like many of the first prototypes, but it was repaired and no one knows who or where this was done.
Now to the present. I have decided to sell the guitar. I contacted a friend in the VH camp and he arranged for Edward to get a first look at the guitar.
It was NEVER being looked at for any reunion tour.
Edward looked at the guitar and stated he didn't remember it; this is common since he doesn't own many of his guitars from the old days nor does he keep records on his pieces. So now I have been given the green light to sell this guitar".

Edward doesn't own any of his old guitars?!!?!?? He has an entire room above 5150 just for storing old equipment, including guitars! I've heard he has hundreds of various makes and models up there. You have to give melodirock credit, always good for a laugh [img]smilies/rolleyes.gif[/img]

Well, that was explained by the owner at PD a little bit. Looks like ed didnt actually ever OWN it or take it on tour. It is one (of many) that were made for him and that he rejected.

Eddie has given away several frankenstrats over the years. Tal Bachman (Randy Bachman's son) got one when his dad was touring with VH in 1986. So it's not surprising for one to turn up now and then. . .The thing that's surprising is that anyone would be willing to sell it if they are lucky enought to own one!

If it was built for Ed, then rejected by Ed, why would anyone want it (other than that Autograph). If I were going to purchase something of that Nature I would definitley want one he was willing to endorse and not reject. Just MHO.

i just happened to find this thread. in case anyone cares, its for sale again..... http://rockstarsguitars.com/product....at=94&scat=204 i dont know how much of what rod said was true about ed not playing it. ive heard different stories, mostly from the man who built it for ed. either way, it was one of the easiest, best sounding guitars i have ever played. well, for a single hum guitar that is!
