Eddie messing up on Eruption

Back in 1994 I read an interview in a French guitar magazine in which Ed was saying to Dweezil Zappa (the interviewer) that he had messed up with the first notes of the well-known hammer on section at the end of the song.He said his fingers went "the wrong direction".I've heard the song hundreds of times,I can't figure it out.
Did you hear that "mistake"?

I read that same thing once in an EVH interview. I'll try and find the magazine and post the info here if I find anything.

I have the magazine, here's the portion, Dweezil is playing Eruption:

"- Ed: If you notice, right around there [plays the descending portion of tapped triplet hammer-ons from "Eruption"], I get turned around because I made a mistake.
- Dweezil: But it's perfet.
- Ed: Not really. If I wanted it perfect I would have redone it, but everyone was saying it's fine."

This is from Guitar Player March 1995 and french Guitar & Bass December 1994.

Eddie once stated in a different interview that the 1st decending pattern that starts the tapping section was only supposed to be played one time but he plays it 2 times because he felt like he played it wrong. I guess his impression was that it wasn't accurate enough. He wanted to recut it but Templeman thought it was great so there it stayed. He plays it that way live because it emulates the recorded version but that's not how he originally wrote it or intended it to be played. I wish I new what interview that was but I have read so many who knows now... definately 10-15 years ago.

lol.... how true. the old blues rule. play a wrong note and repeat it so it seems like you meant to play it. actually..... Eddie played that part right the 1st tme, just cleaner the 2nd time..... Edward the smoldering perfectionist.
