Default If this whole Wolfie in VH thing didn't happen

I wonder how the VH audience would have taken to Wolfie had he released a solo record and not got involved in this whole VH mess. Would you have bought the record?

The reason I ask is I have a feeling that the name alone would sold alot of records and that it may have been a better way of getting him involved in the business as opposed to this baptism by fire. I think by bringing him into the band they may have taken away his biggest potential fan base (Van Halen fans) if he ever did create his own band.

I've read the above 4 times. Does that make sense to anybody?

And I haven't even sampled the eggnog yet.

assuming he created a band in the future the one thing he'd have going for him is his name. By bringing him into Van Halen and pissing off a nice piece of VH's fan base those fans may hate the kid and not give him a chance at all.

    Thanks for the clarification.

You're wrong. The segment of the VH fanbase put off by the firing of Mike Anthony would be outweighed by the larger general public's curiousity about how the progeny of Valerie Bertinelli (former "America's Sweetheart" and tv actress) and her rockstar husband is now playing in his dad's band.

After he does his "internship", he'll be free to do whatever he wants, taking with him all that he has learned in the process, about the business.

Far better than being blindly thrust into the spotlight like a "Julian Lennon" (look how that turned out for him ).

Thanks, but I'm driving. There are more than enough drunken dumb-fucks out there already.

I've yet to see any personality from Wolfgang. It's his dad who seems to be dragging the kid into the spotlight. If Wolfgang is serious about being a musician, I don't think this is the best idea for the long term. He is 15 and too much pressure forced upon him can ruin him before he gets started.

And to answer the question if I'd buy a release from him? Probably not. I have zero interst.

You are basing this on a few three minute appearances on the 2004 tour, correct? Otherwise, how the fuck has the kid had an opportunity to make an impression anyplace else?

Wow, you are one tough critic.

Actually, I think it will do more harm than good. Once the novelty of being the 15 year old kid playing in Daddy's band wears off, I really can't see him doing anything else.

I don't think he'd ever be looked at as a respectable artist in his own right. If credibility is what he wants, Wolfie needs to stand on his own two feet & set up a project of his own. He's probably a bit young at the moment, but give it a couple of years. Eddie could still advise & support, but just more behind the scenes.
“And what we have at our fingertips is arguably one of the greatest high tenor voices ever – that was in Michael Anthony. In our tiny little corner of the universe, that voice is as identifiable as the high voice in Earth, Wind & Fire, as identifiable as the high voice in the Beach Boys. Van Halen is an indelicate house blend of both – that’s intentionally. So I would always look forward to that reunion.” - David Lee Roth

Maybe it would help the VH fans who might be pissed off to think of it this way: according to most of the stories, Wolfie is one of the key motivators to getting this tour underway. Eddie himself has said that Wolfie breathes new life into the band, the photographer said that the band sounds awesome with Wolfie, etc.

In other words, no Wolfie...no getting back with Dave, no tour, etc. (A lot of you will say that $$$ is motivating Eddie, and that may be true to a point. But let's face it, the $$$ has been there for a reunion for the past 20 years. Wolfie is the recent differentiating factor.)

I like Mike a lot. He's a good fit with EVH and has great vocals. He threw me a pick in 2004! But things change, people change, relationships change, on and on... If Wolfie is what Eddie needed to get back with Dave and go on tour, I support the kid 100%. And I'll buy his own record when that comes out, too.
