Default The Cold, Harsh Truth About Michael Anthony

Why all the fuss about Michael Anthony not being a part of the 2007 reunion? Who gives a shit? What has Michael Anthony ever brought to the VH table?

As DLR once said, Mikey’s like an offensive lineman in football: He just does his job, minds his own business, and stays out of trouble.

The truth is Michael Anthony NEVER MADE ONE SINGLE DECISION THAT IMPACTED THE MIGHTY VAN HALEN. He rode the other three members’ creative coattails for all those years. He did absolutely NOTHING, except show up on stage and in the studio. His legacy will be that of a puppet and a follower, who happened to be a nice guy, but a puppet nonetheless.

As long as Wolfie can hit the high note to cover Dave’s ass when they sing “On Fire” live in 2007, it’ll all be worth it.

In case you've never watched a football game, the offensive line is where the game is won/lost.
FUCK ME, what in the fucking hell is with some of these folks around here.
    SOME VH LINKS CLASSICS

"Sammy is fat, Dave is bald, Mike is next in line to be the Pope, Eddie is a drunk, Wolfie is fat, Gary is gay, CVH is VH, Mike is VH, Sammy can outsing Dave on a tequilla hangover, Eddie is a meth head, How Many Say I is the worst VH song ever, Up for Breakfast is a close second, Dave was horrible at radio and everybody hates the assless chaps.
Ok I think that covers everything." Ziggysmalls

"I sense that some of our newer passengers may be nervous due to the sudden turbulence. Please be seated, this is simply a normal part of the periodic ride.
I didn't say we'll get to the destination, but until Alex comes out a says what a complete waste of carbon DLR is, we're still climbing, so strap yourselves in.
Those of you who have been on this ride before, the hottie in the mini will be around shortly with your drinks......." Red

The only problem is that MA was an offensive lineman in the NFL. Wolfie's still playing Pop Warner ball. Get back to us in a few months with post #4 when you have something brilliant to add again.

Longtime fans want to see the band as they know it. True, Mike's contributions to VH diminished over the years, but that was more a product of him being pushed rather than stepping back. He held it down for Ed, Al, and whomever the singer was at the time, and he was a character and nice guy. VH fans have an affection for Mike; they want to see him with anything billed as "Van Halen."

Can't you just stick to reviewing DLR solo shows.
Actually I think most of us are Dave, Sam, and Mike fans. There's just a small group of people who have strange allegiances and like to get into petty pissing contests that I can't believe everyone on this site isn't bored of. - Brett

he made one important decision for certain, he joined the band.

most fans do care. Even ones like me that will go see a show with Wolfie would much rather have Michael there.

Ask David Carr of the Houston Texans how important a good offensive lineman is.

If he were a puppet that did as he was told, he'd still be in the band by all accounts.

i'd prefer to see orig line up too, but, things change unfortunatley and whilst i'd find it weird to see such a young kid on the stage with VH, family or not, if they sounded good, well, so be it. The good thing is that u can't change the past/history and CVH will always be fantastic. Even if this new incarnation sux.

Ditto! The entire game of football is dictated and controlled by the defensive and offensive line. Not a good comparison. Besides, Mike Anthony certainly brought plenty to the world of Van Halen. He may not be the best Bass player in the world, but his vocals are essential to the classic VH sound. One reason why he should absolutely be a part of any "reunion." Granted, if after this little nostalgia tour winds down, Ed wants to create some new incarnation of Van Halen, I'm all for it. And give Mike a fair and lucrative contract, he deserves it as much as ANY of the rest of these ego maniacs!

you also have to remember back in the day ed went after mike to join the band
I used to wonder why he was grinning all the time(Michael Ian Black talkin about EVH on VH1 I love the 80's) but then i realized the reason he's grinning is because he's Eddie F*#king Van Halen

And who are you exactly? Unless you were with the band during every single one of their recording sessions, you have no idea what Mike did or did not contribute. He rode "the other three members' creative coattails", the other 3 being Ed, Al, and Dave/Sam, correct? So, if you want to nitpick, how exactly are Al's contributions, whatever they may be, more valuable than Mike's?

Lastly, why is this a new thread? This opinion could have been posted in about 3 or 4 existing threads where these same arguments have been going on forever.
