Default WB site: Interesting stuff (non-reunion)

I stumbled upon Warner Chappell Music and looked up VH. Interesting read.. ALL of VH's songs are there, PLUS who has the rights to 'em.

I'm not sure why, but when you click on "Full Details"... and then on a song... Sammy Hagar has "Control" over the Van Hagar songs, BUT Dave and Gary do NOT have "Control" over their respective tunes. And yes, Michael Anthony is not associated (legally) with '1984'.

    Any lawyers here?

((Also - make sure you read the 'Subject' line under the song info. tab... some of the descriptions are ridiculous!!!))

Yeah that's weird. No MA on 1984. Could it be part of his rights that he "gave up"? Futurewise.

    Interesting thoughts:

    - Crossing Over (1995) was listed on Page1...wasn't this an unreleased track?!?!?!?

    - Mike was not mentioned for the 3 new tracks released for the 2004 tour...

    - Ultra Bass (Page 5) - huh??? WTF???

    - Dave has "no control" over any of his [VH] songs anymore???

    - Mike had nothing to do with "1984?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?"

You'd be quicker to figure out the status of Jose Padilla than to even begin to figure out the VH publishing deal, much less publishing in general. Publishing is a mess and those who have it figured out are rich for it. I have a miniscule understanding of publishing and I leave it up to the lawyers. And THEY sometimes don't get it.

Yeah, I mentioned this a while back when the last greatest hits cd came out.
I noticed MA name was not listed on any songs from 1984 which I Thought strange because everything was split 4 ways. Could it be that Eddie put his foot down and this was what MA had to give up to be part of the reunion? I mean, it is VH best selling album ( I Think) and Eddie knew he could get more. now, do you think that the others all got 8% more, or did Al and Ed each split the MA Share 50 - 50?

It's also been said that MA had little or nothing to do with 1984 so maybe Ed was tired of seeing 25% of his hard work going flying out the door.

I'm not surprised Mike isn't on the three BOBW tunes, he had nothing to do with them, but adding background vocals after they were complete and he had reached an agreement with the band.
It's odd as hell he's not on the 1984 record, but on all the rest though. Really, odd.
    SOME VH LINKS CLASSICS

"Sammy is fat, Dave is bald, Mike is next in line to be the Pope, Eddie is a drunk, Wolfie is fat, Gary is gay, CVH is VH, Mike is VH, Sammy can outsing Dave on a tequilla hangover, Eddie is a meth head, How Many Say I is the worst VH song ever, Up for Breakfast is a close second, Dave was horrible at radio and everybody hates the assless chaps.
Ok I think that covers everything." Ziggysmalls

"Crossing Over" was on the Japanese version of Balance, so it was released.

Mike had no part in the three new BOBW songs, sans background vocals (he MAYBE got paid for a day's work as a session musician).

"Ultra Bass" is a composition that was released, so yeah it gets acknowledged.

Someone else mentioned it... The Best Of CD was the first time we saw the change in credits for 1984. Mike got songwriting credit for all the original songs up to that point, but "Jump" and "Panama" were only credited to Eddie, Alex, and Dave.

Yep, I thought I remembered hearing/reading that somewhere (Hagar's book outtakes?) over the years Mike gave up his credit to '1984'... why?. not sure.. but he's not credited on the BOV1 for 'Jump' & 'Panama' and that was released in 1996.

I may be wrong, but if I remember correctly, Mike's name was left off a couple of the tunes from 1984 on the original album. I don't have that CD with me at work, so I can't check it right now...

Actually, there were changes made to the "1984" remaster. Micheal McDonald (Doobie Brothers, Steely Dan) was given credit for "I'll Wait".

I can't remember if the M.A. credits remained the same on that release or not.

I also clicked on "Can't Get This Stuff No More" and said under Vocalmix that No Vocals were featured on the song? THAT'S not right, but under "Me Wise Magic" it said Male Vocals were indeed in the song...
In and out. I didn't even make that pun on purpose.

Pretty sure that this is how it goes.

The only rights Dave has after leaving the group would be royalty rights. He does not have the right to sell Unchained to a car dealership in Des Moines, but he does have the right to get paid his share when it is played on the radio, TV, etc. I am sure that Dave signed away all rights to anything Van Halen when he left in 1985. Therefore the only rights he has are the songwriting and performance rights for the songs themselves.
If I don't respond to you it means I have you on ignore, which means you are a douchenozzle.

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!
