...and let me also add that this version of "Panama" has about 1/4 the energy as it did on the actual album

Amazing how much better sober Eddie sounds to regular Eddie.

Yeah, the band really sounded excellent on the Balance tour.
And Mike's mullet is definitely car-on-blocks-in-the-lawn white trash.
And they did have good energy.
And of course Sammy will never sound great singing DLR tunes. Imagine DLR singing Sammy-era stuff; they're very different singers.

I think the title to the CD was correct, "Balance". Ed seemed balanced. Van Halen wasn't a circus then. Everyone accepted them as a little older and realized that the party band mentality was best left in the 80's. Just when we thought this band was going to mature respectably...

I wish that the balance tour were the last memories I had of the hagar era of van halen. Before all the drama and shit. 2004 was great, becuase at least they were together and touring, but lets face it, the band looked and sounded like crap most of the time.
ah wellMoney can't buy you happiness, but it can buy you a yacht big enough to pull up right alongside it. DLR

Ah... I don't know... Eddie was definitely Smoking Loon loosey-goosey for the better part of the tour, but the rest of the band sounded good. Every previous Van Hagar show in the Twin Cities saw Sammy as pretty tired; I thought he sounded better on the two '04 shows I saw than I'd ever recalled from the years before. Alex was also just solid and really held it together.
I just wish it hadn't ended the way it did... again.
