Man....I want that back. I believe that particular version of VH will never be duplicated.
If I can go off topic for a sec here...
The problem I for-see with the possible 07 reunion is this: Limited Set list and too high of expectations. Now, im only saying this out of personal opinion but I believe that once dave hits the stage with ed, al and wolfgang, that he will go into his "yay, its all about me again" state of mind and it will just fuck everything up. And the other problem I forsee with this upcoming tour is the setlist. There are only 6 albums worth of material that they can play because its obvious that dave wont do any of sam songs (and probably cant due to the range sam was singing at when they recorded with him) so it really limits to what they can play on the tour. Sure, Im sure they can do a few cover tunes but thats about it.
Anyways, back on topic...
Top of the World is probably one of my favorite VH songs, just because its such a good song. On the 04 tour, I heard it played and sang a different way which I had never heard before. Normally, the chorus goes "Stannndin on top--of the world..." but with the o4 tour it was "Stannndin on TOP!--of the world..." and I was just absolutley floored by how they changed something so simple but it added another dimension to the song. I think they did the same thing with dreams. You can virtually play any kind of solo on that song and it will still sound great.

The setlist in '07 will be interesting. I have a hard time understanding how a band can ignore half of its history--especially its second half--and go out and feel good about what they're doing (Kiss in '97). Maybe it'll be fun for them to jam out old tunes, some of which they haven't played for a really long time. And it'll definietly be fun for the fans to hear (if it's good, that is).
If Mike was to be there he could sing a couple of Van Hagar era songs. Whatever.

the 93 tour was incredible, I don't think it gets enough credit cause it was pretty short but they did a ton of cool thins onstage for that show...opened with mine all mine, Mike played purple haze at the end of his solo and then he set his bass on fire, al had that cool drum solo going-best drum solo I'd ever seen, they played pleasure dome, ed played the little guitars intro during his solo and the pleasure dome intor-tehy didn't do the intro when they played it earlier, Unchained, rockin in the free world, awsome setlist....
I wish they would have gone right into the studio after that tour cause I think that would have changed the timeline just enough so that alot of bullshit could have been avoided. Ed lefler still woulda died but they would have been in the studio together, no Unboxed from Sam, no time to argue about who the manager was gonna be...I just think the time between the end of this tour and the start of the balance sessions was probably one of the most hectic and probably the most tension filled time for that version of the band, maybe if they would have channeled thier energy into recording instead of fighting we'd still have van halen from 96-04 isntead of the trainwreck they became.

Apart from longer hair... Sammy looks no different now than he did in that video. How happiness can make one seem ageless.
