    Default Actor Peter Boyle Dead

Actor Peter Boyle, who played the crabby father of Ray Romano on the CBS comedy "Everybody Loves Raymond" died last night in New York. Details to come.

Before deciding to pursue a career in acting, he was a monk in the Christian Brothers order.

Peter's wife Loraine was a reporter for Rolling Stone Magazine when they first met--he was in his full make-up for Young Frankenstein (1974). Through her friendship with Yoko Ono, Peter met and became best friends with ex-Beatle John Lennon.

After seeing people cheer at his role in Joe (1970), he refused the lead role in The French Connection (1971) and other roles that glamorized violence.

Has 2 daughters with Alterman, Lucy and Amy.

Suffered a stroke in 1990 and couldn't talk for 6 months.

Father hosted a popular children's lunchtime cartoon show in Philadelphia in the 1950s titled "Lunch with Uncle Pete."

John Lennon was best man at his wedding to his wife Loraine.

    Is Irish American.

Commuted between Los Angeles, California, and his home in New York City for the filming of "Everybody Loves Raymond" (1996).

When he hosted "Saturday Night Live" (1975) in the 1970s, he demonstrated his fine singing voice.

1957 graduate of La Salle University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Was the only member of the ensemble cast of "Everybody Loves Raymond" (1996) who didn't win an Emmy award for acting in a comedy series.

    Personal Quotes:

"I don't think I would be an actor if I was all that intelligent."

"Opera? Just what the world needs: more fat women screaming."

NEW YORK (AP) -- Peter Boyle, the tall, prematurely bald actor who was the tap-dancing monster in "Young Frankenstein" and the curmudgeonly father in the long-running sitcom "Everybody Loves Raymond," has died. He was 71.

Boyle died Tuesday evening at New York Presbyterian Hospital. He had been suffering from multiple myeloma and heart disease, said his publicist, Jennifer Plante.

Nice quote there, Squal! I loved that movie. Also loved Peter's role in "The Dream Team." Sorry to hear of his passing.

Me too, bud. An unfairly underrated Keaton flick. You fargin corksuckers.

Joe Piscopo back when he mattered. Marilu Henner too. Who didn't have a thing for that Taxi redhead, anyway? I heard she boinked just about the entire cast of Taxi. Kaufman, Hirsch, Danza, Lloyd, Conaway, all of 'em except for Devito.

    Mmm....slutty sitcom redheads. Yeah.

Oh man.... That is very sad news indeed. He was so funny in so many movies and I loved his role in Raymond.....

Not sure if anyone knows this but he was very good friends with John Lennon. I remember him saying how distraught he was when Lennon was killed.

I know you have both been re-united, Mr. Boyle. Godspeed... :unhappy:

In my opinion, Boyle's best work was on an episode of X-Files. You never see it mentioned much when reviewing his body of work, but it was an outstanding episode. It is called "Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose." Check it out if you get a chance.

Wow. I was just thinking the same thought as to how good P.B. was in that role.

Boyle played a rather melancholy fellow, one who could forsee death. It ended in a sad and touching fashion.
