Do I miss something ? I mean maybe it were the original Star Wars which have all the hype about them, but providing even those were directed by G. Lucas, eh eh.. wtf? Is that movie supposed to be taken seriously or it's kinda, well, teh-5-Element-ish thingie? If so then I actually did kinda enjoy it in it's own little way, but if it's supposed to be a 'landmark of science fiction' - pawlease give moi a major break, one of the worst make-up, distasteful environment, mild-cheddar cheezy FX and the most aweful sound/cinematography I've seen in a movie coming out of this decade. Holy fuck 'Pitch Black', let alone Chonicles of Riddick make E2 + E3 look like 'Panic! At The Disco' comparing to Van Halen. Or there shud be an effect of "you shud have been a kid in the early 80-ies to be able to appreciate!" and blah-blah of the same manner?

I liked em, I dont think george could have ever lived up to the hype.

I liked the story, fun movies to watch. acting sucked, directing sucked, but oh well. I was 13 when I saw the orginal, if I was 13 for these, I would love them I am sure. There is just no way he could make two generations happy and unfortunately, that is what I think he attempted.

Just like VH, you can never go back, you just can't. it never works.

The movies are not supposed to be taken to seriously. George is trying to mimic the movies he liked as a child which were cliffhanger serial types of flicks. He loved watching stuff like this:

    http://www.saturday-matinee-memories.com/serial.htm

If you watched one of these movies and then watched a Star Wars movie it would all make a lot more sense (from a movie making standpoint).

Also, I was 5 years old when Star Wars first came out. I got to see it at a drive in with my faimily. If you think about what was available back then you can understand the effect it had on young boys. I loved it so much I wouldn't even talk to someone that didn't like the movies as well. My uncle took me to see The Empire Strikes Back the first day it came out. I was shocked at the ending, I wanted to cry the entire car ride home but was embarassed (I didn't want to cry in front of my uncle Steve). Little kids don't like to see their favorite charecters frozen and NOT saved at the end of a movie! I won't even go into the Darth Vader is Lukes father thing (him losing that fight did not sit well with my young ass either!).

The new movies are pretty good as far as im concerned. I think he did a good job of making them fit cinimaticly with the originals. I do wish he made the first two like he made Episode III but that's obviously not my call.

Here is why I love them....

Episode 2 had a great beginning, non-stop action with Anakin and Obi Wan saving Padme and then flying around the city. It has Jango Fett as a major villian. Boba Fett never got half as much screen time, and he is my favorite SW character, and they are clones of each other. You also get to see Boba as a kid, you get to see what Jango and Boba look like without their helmets on, and he fight with Obi Wan in the rain was awesome! I didn't like it when his head got cut off though. I thought the fights at the end of the movie were great as well, with all the Clone troopers saving the Jedi. Also seeing Yoda fight was awesome! I never thought he could fight that well. Seeing Anakin get his hand chopped off just like Luke does years later was cool. Also seeing the Death Star plans at the end was a great touch by George.

    Episode 3

It started with an amazing space battle, you really feel like you are part of it if you saw it on the big screen. Seeing Anakin lose it and murder Count Dooku was a great beginning. It was shocking. Then seeing how he tried to save his wife Padme by learning the dark side powers, made you feel for Darth Vader. Seeing him chop Mace's arm off and save The Emperor was great! Especially since I hated Mace's character.

Seeing Anakin turn evil was believable, great acting by Hayden. Seeing all the Jedi killed was really dramatic, and seeing all the Clone Troopers suddenly turn on them was something I didn't expect. The effects on the creatures were great, and the ships. The fight between Yoda and the Emperor was cool, it was strange seeing Yoda not beat him. Seeing Obi Wan cut Anakin in half was cool as hell, and violent! You could feel his pain having to almost kill his best friend. Seeing Anakin turn into Darth Vader was really cool as well. Those are the reasons why both of those movies are incredible, George Lucas is a genious, and deserves every penny he made on the Star Wars movies..

I didn't mind em,although it would be hard to like them more than the original 3 just cuz of the rawness they seemed to have back then, and not ALL OUT FX.
Seems like the over-devotion to the love story is what ruined it for lovers of the originals(i know it's the point of the story, but it was wayyy overdone sometimes.)

The only thing I really didn't like was the acting in ep III of Ian McDiarmid. It almost seemed like he was seriously trying to make himself look like a dumbass when he would use a saber,or else he was really trying to lick someone or bite off his tongue. The facial expressions were just horrendous. Even the voice when he was trying to act pissed or evil was just so unbelievable, cartoonish.

In the theater, when mace had him pinned on the floor and Windu says "You have lost".........Palpatine grunts out "no,no,nooo"..........I almost broke out laughing right there.

Besides that, when Anakin says "I pledge myself to your teachings" It just didn't sound real at all.

I will say, though,it was better than the first too by far, imo. And yeah, seeing Anakin get mutilated was probably one of my favorite parts of any of the 3 new movies, just because it was so graphic I guess

Anakin's turn to the dark side was too quick.

the Jedi purge wasn't that surprising. it had been talked about for years.

Anakin was always pissed off about something anyways. he wasn't really pursued by Palpatine until Ep 3. everything before that was a set-up, a nudge in the wrong direction. not until Palpatine started throwing around the "save Padme" talk did it get serious.

The new movies had some cool scenes, but the overall story behind the first three movies was a lot better.

I loved the first three as a kid but I was unable to finish watching ep1, ep2 had me a bit more involved but I only made it 15 minutes into ep3 before I switched off the TV. The only one of the whole series I really liked was Empire.

I guess they are supposed to be for children anyway so maybe it's not so surprising I didn't like the new ones.

Well I love the Star Wars movies...all of them. I do believe that 1-3 get a bad rap because if you released 4-6 right now they would be ripped apart. All the movies have bad acting, bad lines and bad directing. James Earl Jones had some horrible lines in episode 4. "I sense something. I have not felt this prescence since.." God Awful!!! Anyway if you released 4-6 now they would have been direct to video. A New Hope benefited more from the Vietnam War, Watergate and ex-hippies then anything else. It was a kids movie that adults went to go see because of the message. If it came out two years earlier or later, I doubt we would be talking about them in 2006.
