    Default did ed ever use....

does anyone know if ed ever used an "e-bow"?
i ask because i picked up a "learn to play guitar in 15minutes" kinda book today (im always picking these things up and ripping them to shreds)
and it stated that eddy and jimi hendrix are famous users of the e-bow, and for the life of me i cant recall either of them using one (to record with anyway)
can anyone think of an example??

That's what was stated in guitar interviews at the time, so I assume you recall correctly!

this book claimed ed was a prolific user on the e-bow, the intro to 1 song song over the course of over 2 decades is hardly "prolific"!...lol

Though he gets a lot of heat for it here, Ed's use of the sustainer on songs like "Me Wise Magic," "Humans Being," "Year To The Day," and "It's About Time" is quite awesome.

i agree, when he uses the sustainer in the studio it really does sound awsome, but from what i hear he overuses it live.
im still thinking of fitting one on one of my axes though

I've got a custom Wolfie in the works right now that will have a humbucking Fernandes Sustainer in the neck position. The only difficult thing about installing it is the extra routing necessary in the body.

I had a fernandes vertigo with a sustainer. It was okay, I guess, but more of a gimmick. The novelty wore off pretty quick.

My plan is to use it selectively. I've got a song in my head for my band that'll call for it in the intro. (And for that reason I'm assembling a Wolfgang Special from parts w/ the Sustainer. Rationalization!)

Yeah, when used in an actual song, and tastefully utilized, it's awesome. However, when used to cover up sloppiness and drunkidness, or when mindlessly noodling, it sounds like shit!

im thinking of putting one in my frankie replica its only got a single paf and is routed for 3 humbuckers so theres quite a lot of space i can utilize, if i need more im pretty good with power tools i'll just start hacking the back up..lol

Exactly. Use it tastefully and sparingly - like the Edge, for example - and you'll be fine. It is pretty cool to be able to get simulated feedback, without distortion. That's what I liked about it anyway....

Ed's already over used it and and abused it. Novelty over... rip the dang thing out.

Jimi never touched an e-bow... hadn't been invented yet when he died in 1970.
Woke up this mornin, got Blue Moon in your eyes...
