    Default Best Of 2006

Well I can officially say that overally "this year SUCKED musically", so meh. I bought alot of 2006 releases, and it's basically just one which was worth twise it's price, the review on the rest below:

Underoath - Define The Great Line
Meh. I never was much into Underoath to begin with, but this album is just a waste really. I dunno if it has anything with Killswitch guy producing it, but it sounds cliche as fuck

Taking Back Sunday - Louder Now

Seriously, after two GREAT albums to release such a crap is not what you expect from basically the leading band of their genre. I'm not even commenting any further, major major dissappointment for me.

Boysetsfire - The Misery Index: Notes From The Plague Years
The record is good, it's just the band split up after the tour in it's support. So a boomer. Although that's what happens when quite old (early 90-ies) rock bands go into experementing with modern mainstreamish sound

Brand New - The Devil And God Are Raging Inside Me
Oh it's Brand New, I was expecting something much much darker than their previous Deja Indendu, and so it was. It's a kind of the albums you need dozens of listens to get into, but I can honestly say I like it.

All That Remains - The Fall Of Ideals
    Mmmm okay. Bleh

    Mastodon - Blood Mountain
Typical Mastodon, something that is not bad but is not great either

    ---

So well, here it is. IMO, the best release of the year which, despite not being able to alter the overall impression, still remains my most-played album after 2 months of daily listening to it -
My Chemical Romance - The Black Parade
My whole review is in the link in my sig, I'll just add that it also was the reason of me finally forming a band, I don't know if it would go as easy if it wasn't for us starting with playing MCR covers.

Well all in all, that whole thing indicates that 2007 could be as awesome as 2004 has been. It's just a matter of having the fingers crossed

Default I realize they're not metal at ALL....

but I have really enjoyed the new Dixie Chicks album that came out this year. INCREDIBLE instrumentals and they take the piss out of GW and his mindless supporters.

I thought Neil Young's "Living With War" to be a stunner, and my choice for "Record of the Year". I found the record to be remarkable and the best thing he'd done in years. The unlikely combination of a 100 voice choir and Crazy Horse-like riffs actually had a profound effect, plus (for a change) there wasn't a true clinker in the bunch, "Let's Impeach The President..." notwithstanding.

    Joe Satriani - Super Colossal
I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this album.

Killswitch Engage - As Daylight Dies
This album rocks. KsE is moving a little bit further away from metalcore, but they still write great songs and it's really fun to listen to.

Shadows Fall - Fallout from the War
It's not as good as The War Within, but it's fun to listen to. Hopefully the album that comes out in 2007 will be awesome!

    Trivium - The Crusade
Kind of disappointed with this one. The music is all solid and everyone in this band can play, but it just doesn't have it. I don't know how to explain it. The ferocity of the other albums just isn't a part of this one.

Children of Bodom - Stockholm Knockout Live
    Enough said.

For me, the best were Maiden's "A Matter of Life and Death" and Army of Anyone's debut. Easily the best two albums of the year, without a doubt.

The biggest disappointment was the Who's "Endless Wire." I expected so much more than what I got from them...
In and out. I didn't even make that pun on purpose.
