David Lee Roth performing a 90-minute tribute to classic VAN HALEN!! Coming to a fair/festival/really big bar/casino near you! You'll hear everyone's favorites again this summer! Songs like Panama, ATBL, Icecream Man, and of course JUMP! Arrive early to hear Dave's solo material over the PA! You might even hear ALAE twice! See Bart Walsh perform all of EDWARD VAN HALEN's screaming guitar licks! The world's greatest and most authentic VAN HALEN tribute band!

Oh yeah. I'm fucking stoked.

Dave can't seem to do anything right anymore. What in hell has happened to him?

There was a lot of pre-Cherone stuff played, but realistically what else could they do? Play 3 start to finish? Nobody wants to see that. Nobody. They did what is normal for an established band. Put out a record, and played the 'better' cuts off of it live with previous hits filling out the rest of the show. That's no different from the Stones or Aerosmith. Yes, the vocalist was different. The pattern was the same, however.

If Dave doesn't want to join Pearcy and the rest of that ilk, he's gotta do something different. To me Bart's return means there'll be more of the same.

Dave's got a real catch-22 here. That clip on his site fucking sucks. He can't draw people with that sort of thing. He can do the VH show again, and draw people. He can't be an effective solo artist doing that, however. He'll never move an album.

If he wants to avoid obscurity on the one hand, and being washed-up on the other he only has one choice: do what successful and established bands have always done. Put out material that will appeal to your fanbase, then go out on tour playing hits along with the new stuff. Until he begins to do that he'll go left or right, but he won't move forward one bit.

Does anyone want to see him become the proverbial old maid, pining for his first love at the expense of everything else?

Actually, that's EXACTLY what VH did for the 5150 tour.

Ok, Mike. Let's turn this around........
It's all well and good to try and do that, but everything I described has actually happened. If Dave doesn't flip another coin, they'll happen again this summer. It's an entertaining show, but there's little difference between it and Stephen Pearcey's Ratt incarnation that was touring last year.

Pardon me for wanting more from a rock and roll legend like David Lee Roth.
</font>
I see your point, but how can you say the VDIII tour wasn't the same thing? Cherone was doing a karaoke show on that stage most of the time.

I believe that Dave did these tours to give the Van Halen fans what Eddie refused to give them. A classic Van Halen show. Bart's not Eddie, but he certainly replaced Eddie (in that capacity) far better than Cherone replaced Dave.

Now if Eddie just got a fucking clue, neither one would have to do a "tribute band" again.
</font>
All valid points for sure on everyones part, but the underlying fact here is that it has all become a joke, VH, Roth, the comments made by Mike, then retracted, it's a fucking circus, and a bad one at that.

Does anybody with the last name of Roth or Van Halen know what the hell they are doing? They seem to be just as or even more confused then their fans. Why is this equation so hard to solve?

DLR + EVH + AVH + MA = Van Halen (at it's best)

No substitutes allowed. No 'New Coke'. What works is the classic formula.

I was never a big fan of the smokescreen theory, but this is looking more like a ruse with every passing moment.

C'mon...this has to be a fucking gag.

Next your gonna hear it's Vai who is back in the band.

I thought this Bart guy left cause Dave was a drug addict?

I'll say it again...THIS HAS TO BE A FUCKING GAG!

I have to totally agree with you there. Except for a very small (less than one day) hiatus, I have always maintained that this is a giant ruse. Just like how Dave described in his book.
ExpandedConsciousness:

WOW!!! HOLYFUCKINGFUCK!!! What kind of Twilight Zone am I living in? What kind of Viagra-Testosterone mix are these 50 year old + guys on? I never thought I'd hear another Dave and Eddie album again. If I did, I thought it would be a mid-paced affair like the Rolling Stones or later day AC/DC. After the TATTOO single I was ready for a poppy album from old guys, with a few nods to harder rock (She's A Woman and Bullethead) and I would have been happy with that.

I NEVER THOUGHT I'D BE GETTING A FULL-THROTTLE HARD ROCK, HEAVY METAL, BALLS TO THE WALL, FUCKING VAN HALEN THRASH METAL ALBUM!!!

For it to be an effective smoke screen wouldn't they have to come clean at some point?

I understand totally what's going on...with the DLR band... CHAOS pure and simple!!!!

There's no clear direction... no plan... no business plan. It's just a bunch of dysfunctional wacked out musicians cut outta the business end left to their own vices and psychosis floundering in the pool of life...

On the Van Halen front I read a quote this morning by George Harrison that may sum up what's going on with Ed, Al, & Mike...

"It's good to get out and boogie occasionally. But if you boogie all of life then you've missed most of what really matters at all."
Woke up this mornin, got Blue Moon in your eyes...
