Santamental - Joy to the World with EVH
Anyone heard this Steve Lukather album?
It seems this album was released in '03 and Ed plays on Joy to the World?Last edited by ScottyBHarris; 12.11.06 at 08:43 AM.

I've got joy to the world somewhere. I like it, I have not listened to it in awhile but I remember having a hard time trying to figure out which parts were ed's...it's a jam from start to finish.

Yes it is definetly worth the price of admission. Steve Lukather and Steve Vai and tons of others are rocking the entire CD. Its the best Chistmas CD I Own.

It is a good song, kinda hopped up jazz/blues boogie thing, Eddie does the 2nd and 4th solo spots. I actually like Lukather's solos better. They are more dynamic plus I do not care for Eddie's sound , it has a buzzing, low quality recording type of sound. Hard to explain.

It's a good CD to play around the holiday season...
“And what we have at our fingertips is arguably one of the greatest high tenor voices ever – that was in Michael Anthony. In our tiny little corner of the universe, that voice is as identifiable as the high voice in Earth, Wind & Fire, as identifiable as the high voice in the Beach Boys. Van Halen is an indelicate house blend of both – that’s intentionally. So I would always look forward to that reunion.” - David Lee Roth
David Lee Roth, Edward Van Halen, Michael Anthony, Alex Van Halen, Sammy Hagar.

Just ordered the CD. I read that Ed plays the 1, 2 and 4th solos in the song. Always love to hear Edward contributions that I haven't heard before.

Here ya go:
There is a brief clip at the link at the bottom.
In June 2002 Lukather started the recordings for a solo album with jazz-rock style covers of classic and brand new Xmas songs, (re)arranged by Luke himself and Jeff Babko. The album (almost entirely instrumental) also will contain two new songs as a surprise gift. One of the special guests on the album, entitled Santamental is Eddie Van Halen. Lukather in July, "Ed and I have been friends for 24 years or so. I got him out of seclusion to come rip on one of the Xmas tunes." Van Halen joins Lukather on a rendition of the standard "Joy To The World" that Lukather tells will sound a bit different than what most people are used to, "I did a version of "Joy To The World" that sounds like it's "Hot For Teacher" or "Space Boogie". It's that tempo, that groove, and we re-arranged the voicings around the melody. Me and him go back and forth on some solos. Santamental sounds like a Big Band based on Weather Report, Frank Zappa and Van Halen." Destined to become a classic, the album is specially packaged in an 4-panel Digipak.
