While goin' thru Dave's CFTH book for the upteenth time, I noticed in the photo section a picture of the band takin' a bow at some big concert stadium. (I think the pic also appeared in the Diver Down album)Like all the photos in the spread, Dave has comments or jokes scribble in. I noticed on this particular picture it said '81, Opening for the Stones" or somethin' to that effect. Did in fact, the boys play any gigs with the Stones?

That was the last show of the Fair Warning tour. It was in Orlando Florida. Van Halen opened for the Stones.

That pic in the Diver Down album is VH opening up for The Stones, this I am certain.
As to WHERE the pic was taken, I'm not sure. I believe it was the LA Collesium. But don't quote me...

Definitely not the LA Coliseum. I would have remembered that.

The photo was taken on October 24, 1981 at the Tangerine Bowl in Orlando Florida. They opened for the Stones that day.

That's kinda cool! I never would've guessed Van Halen opened for Rolling Stones.

When I go out to I-4 I can see the top of the upperdeck and the light towers and it's always cool to think that Van Halen and the Rolling Stones played right there! I actually had to drive by it last week - it looks different than in the picture now because they added an upperdeck to it at some point, but still - the Stones and Van Halen - Tattoo You and Fair Warning - what an awesome show that must've been. And it probably cost less than $20.!
