VH II guitar buried with Dimebag

I believe this belongs in the past forum.

I havent read this info anywhere (including here) in detail why EVH gave his VH II guitar to be buried with Dime, if has been posted before I apologize. Still a great gesture by EVH!

Anyways I found it on another board in a thread about Dimes passing 2 years ago:

"Some months before his murder, Darrell had found out from one of his industry contacts that Eddie Van Halen and Charvel guitars were going to produce a limited-edition series of guitars bearing Van Halen's trademark tape-striping. Van Halen himself would be individually taping each guitar and they would also come with a picture of him doing so and a certificate of authenticity. According to Eddie, Darrell called him on the phone and asked if he could purchase one before they became available. Eddie replied that the next time he saw Darrell, he would have one of the guitars with him and would stripe it in Darrell's presence as a gift. Before they could meet again, Darrell was murdered. Eddie recounted this story when he spoke at Darrell's funeral, then, to the surprise of those in attendance, he brought out the black and yellow tape-striped guitar seen on the back cover of Van Halen II (which Darrell had said was his favorite guitar of Eddie's) and laid it in Darrell's casket to be buried with him."

I've read this before. To me it shows that deep down, Ed is still the guy with the big grin and bigger heart. Remember the story of the kids in the hospital? Some conman took a womans car to pick up Ed and never showed? Ed found out and came on his own with gifts. Ed may be an angry person right now, I would think cancer, loss of your parents, divorce...in a short time would do that, but I think that Ed we want to see is still there.

i think it shows that when u take away all the b.s that is surrounding ed right now from people who don't know him (like most people on here). he is still the ed we all want to remember.
if im correct the last words dime said to his brother vinny were "van halen" apparently it was some kinda code for having a good time.

but i think ed really is the great guy we remember even if the lines are blurred sometimes, i for one have never doubted that fact because i know from personal experience that cancer, divorce, loss of parents, band splitting up, and alchohol problems affect people and the effects dont just disappear they are ongoing and longlasting, this story proves he is deep down overcoming his demons and remembering who he really is, it will take time but he'll get there again

that's correct, and inside besides Eddie's guitar, there was also whisky bottles and other stuff Dime loved.

I hadn't heard that Dime called Eddie when he found out about the Charvel series. There were pictures of Dime and Vin hanging out with VH backstage at an '04 show in Texas. Everything we've heard indicates that the guitar Eddie put in Dime's casket was the original black and yellow VH II guitar.

Eddie is a good person, and he's a nice guy to know. He is also--just like everyone else--a flawed person. We here frequently question his leadership decisions with regard to his career and band, but in the end those decisions are his. I don't think anyone can claim that Ed is a bad or mean or thoughtless person, so we shouldn't be surprised when he does something we see as good.

I bet a billion dollars that the guitar put in the casket was NOT the original VHII guitar. It was a remake.
