The song was originally written in 1949 and is 75 years old.

Other versions appeared.

The 1964 version was performed by Burl Ives. THAT version is 60 years old.

Never liked this when A Very Special Christmas came out, but I think that was mainly due to the treacly keyboard sound that permeated so many pop hits, especially ballads, in the ‘80s. Certainly ain’t Whitney’s fault - she sings it well, better than well. No Robert Goulet, but still hits the spot. Actually heard a version today where I think they took her vocal and mixed it with Pentatonix - got rid of the treacly keyboard anyway.

Mentioned last night that I didn’t use to care for John Mellencamp. Can’t say for sure, but I think this might’ve been where I started thinking he was all right, at least to hear on the radio (never bought any of his records (on purpose)).
