The Asylum Street Spankers on the subject of patriotism...and those yellow ribbons on cars.

LOL! Leave it to the Spankers...LOL! Those guys have been a riotous institution down in Austin for years. Pretty clever stuff...
"20 minutes (late to work)? Shit. Last year I woke up three weeks too late.
My advice is to go for the alien abduction story. Look bemused, dishevelled and on the verge of tears as you recount your story of intrusive and degrading medical tests.

I'll keep my feelings on the war in Iraq to myself, to avoid turning this thread into something it shouldn't be. However, I'm all for supporting the troops. My dad was a Marine in the Bay of Pigs invasion, my uncle an Air Force pilot in Viet Nam, and I have other family members and friendswho've served.

What gets me are the jackasses who put those stupid ribbons on their vehicles and think they're supporting the troops! I'll put a ribbon on my car when they make one that says,"I support the economy of whatever third-world country manufactured this ribbon." There are plenty of programs you can get involved in - become email/pen pals with a soldier, for example - if you really want to support the troops. But most of the fuckers buying those ribbons aren't doing that. As long as supporting the troops means that they don't have to get of their lazy asses and, god forbid, actually do something; count them in!

Apologies to those precious few ribbon-owners who are actually "supporting the troops", in the literal meaning of the phrase. You are better Americans than the rest of us.

No shit! I was unfortunate enough to be working behind the counter of a convenience store/gas station back when Poppy Bush invaded Iraq in 1991. I got to deal with all the anger of the public (Gas prices OVER $1/gallon?? What a fucking outrage!!) as if I were the CEO of Texaco himself.

Naturally, the owner of the station, always looking for a quick buck, instantly loaded up the front counters with "patriotic" trinkets. The usual shit.... bumper stickers, yellow ribbons, plastic flags, etc.

I took a closer look at one of the plastic flags. You guessed it.... "MADE IN CHINA".

So I put up my own sign next to the display which said "SUPPORT YOUR TROOPS WITH CHEAP CRAP MADE BY CHINESE COMMUNISTS!!"

Most of the customers got a good laugh out of the whole thing. The few that didn't?? Well, they're probably part of that 30% who can't seem to pull their heads out of their ass even today........

Dude, if you've got a veterans plate I'd say you've done more than enough already. Thanks again.

    Magnets schmagnets.

This is how I show my support for the military....

When I encounter someone in uniform, I am always polite to them. I greet them with a smile. I let them go first, and I open doors for them.

The gentleman who parks next to me here at home is a marine, and I address him as 'sir' when I see him as I leave for work in the morning.

Even if I see a serviceman acting like a macho jerk, I let it go because I know there's a very good chance that he will have to die someday soon in the line of duty.

I support our military, not the president.
