Andy Dick Apologizes for Racial Slur
    http://www.tmz.com/2006/12/05/andy-dick-the-new-kramer/

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Andy Dick has apologized for using the same racial slur that got ex-"Seinfeld" star Michael Richards in trouble last month.

Dick, a former co-star of the '90s sitcom "NewsRadio," jumped onstage during a routine by Ian Bagg at the Improv on Saturday night and used the n-word in an apparent attempt to joke about Richards, the celebrity Web site TMZ.com reported Tuesday.

The 40-year-old actor-comedian issued an apology through his publicist.

"I chose to make a joke about a subject that is not funny," said the statement, which was provided to the Los Angeles Times. "In an attempt to make light of a serious subject, I have offended a lot of people, and I am sorry for my insensitivity. I wish to apologize to Ian, to the club and its patrons and to anyone who was hurt or offended by my remark."

According to TMZ, Dick had been heckling Bagg from the audience and then joined him onstage, when the two discussed Richards. When Dick exited the stage, he suddenly grabbed the microphone and shouted at the crowd, "You're all a bunch of ...'" - using the n-word.

An Improv manager wouldn't comment about the incident when reached by the newspaper.

Richards, who played the wacky neighbor Kramer on "Seinfeld," has been on a campaign of contrition since videotaped footage of his outburst at the Laugh Factory on Nov. 17 surfaced on TMZ.

Richards has said the tirade was fueled by anger at being heckled and not bigotry. He plans to meet with the four black patrons who were the targets of his remarks to apologize in person.

Damon Wayans became the first famous offender of the Laugh Factory's ban on the use of the n-word, and was fined and banned from the club for three months as a result, Wayans' publicist tells TMZ.

After the Michael Richards incident on November 17, the club decided to ban use of the word and fine comedians $20 for every offense. Wayans took the stage Sunday during a showcase of African-American comedians called "Chocolate Sundaes." Wayans opened his routine with the line, "Give yourselves a big round of applause for coming down and supporting 'N***** Night.'" According to the L.A. Times, Wayans used the word 15 more times during his 20-minute appearance.

That's a $320 contribution to the Laugh Factory's swear jar. Wayans' rep had no further comment other than to confirm the fine and the temporary ban.

I thought it was socially acceptable for blacks to use that particular word. Well, not really, but......

And how is that more offensive that calling it Chocolate Sundaes? It's not. It's like midget and little person shit.

Sadly, this seems to be the only way Andy Dick can keep himself in the spotlight. The man's about as funny as a kick to the nuts.....YOUR nuts.

I'll admit that Andy Dick can be hysterical at times. Annoying too.

But the fact that he used the N word for attention is sad. I doubt he is even sorry for it.

The guy is out of his mind in the first place.

We'll forget about this andy dick thing in a couple days. Unfortunately Michael Richards will forever be stamped as a racist in the media and the eyes of the public. But nobody will make a huff about Andy Dick. Because nobody takes him seriously.

I maintain again that the word has lost it's meaning due to the continued use of the word by blacks and despite what SOME may think - Richards and certainly Andy Dick are not racist. If blacks are offended by the word, then stop fucking using it. Otherwise, shut the fuck up.

I truly believe that the black community are just using the Richards opportunity to get across their own message and are taking advantage of the situation.

Both Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton have both admitted to using the word in casual conversation, but where they cross the line is asking the world to boycott the Seinfeld DVD. The rest of the cast, crew and producers had nothing to do with Richards outburst and should not be boycotted because a couple of jackassess looking for media attention say that they should.

I thought he was great in Old School.

Didn't he get in trouble with something like this a while back...maybe not the n word, but something racially insensitive?

Why is Andy Dick apologizing? He actually had an audience that heard this? Was there any stupid cell-phone footage of the offense? Michael Richards' apology was only made because it got national attention from a video that was made public. He actually HAD to apologize.

I want to publicly apologize. I once called a woman a C**t. If at all offended any women by this, once again I'm sorry.

This is getting to be ridiculous.

I feel that I must apologize as well.

Back in 1991 while doing power line construction, I called one of the bosses a "Cantankerous old bastard!!!" This was insensitive on my part as it implies that old people are cantankerous and bastards. It's really been eating at my guts for some time now.

I also called a woman a "Cunt" after holding the door open for her as she entered the Boulevard Mall in Las Vegas and she snarled "I could have gotten that myself!" at me. For that I am truly sorry.

I could go on, but what the fuck for?

Okay. One more. I apologize to Andy Dick because I have referred to him as "That fucking fag from News Radio" on countless occasions. I'm sure that Mr. Dick has lost many a night of sleep due to my tasteless comments.

You should be sorry. "Snatch-face" would have been more befitting.
