    Air Force, or Army Reserves???

My neice is thinking about joining the Army Reserves after her senior year... I'm thinking she should go into the Air Force...

Any thoughts on either, and what would be best for her??

I have a cousin who is a second year student at the Air Force Academy. He promised to buzz my house with a B-2 when he graduates.

Air Force. Very easy choice. They're more selective and the training is better, and the workforce after service knows it. Army reserves...tough gig. You might as well sign up as active because you're GOING to Iraq.

    Air Force reserves.

She'll go to the Persian Gulf anyway, might as well have air conditioning and good food.

I love the Army but even my Vietnam-vet cousins all went Air Force reserves.

What does she want to do in the Air Force, what job is she looking at? If she want's tech training she can do that, if she wants to ave fun, there are jobs for that too.

18 year vet of the Air Force checking in. I would have to say the Air Force.
I would rather spend 4 months deployed as opposed to 12 months or more you would spend in the Army reserves. If she decides on the USAF make sure she get's a guaranteed job don't buy into the recruiters BS. Get a guaranteed job. That way she will not end up in Security Forces or a Vehicle Operator then the chances of getting hurt or killed go up!

She's young, and all this could change as the wind blows... I'm trying to help, thus now seeking knowledge from others... I may be wrong, but I did tell her that going into the Army Reserves will make her an IED sponge... This is why I'm leaning to the push into the AF...

Try it from this angle, the AF is the most modern of the Armed Services, their bases are fairly new and are usually updated (this is a relative term in the military but the Air Force houses it's people better in newer buildings whereas the Army is just now replacing barracks built durring the Korean War. The newest barracks at Fort Ord were built in 1968), the food is good and the operational environment is more corperate than hard core miltary (again, relative to the Army or USMC). The jobs are usually more interesting too.

Again, I love all things Army and if she likes being cold, wet or hot (or a combination) plus dog tired and work under an NCO who has a case of the 24 hour Red Ass because he/she hates reservists but is stuck working with them, then the Army's the way to go.

14 year active duty vet here as well. I would say the Air Force, it's not really a choice either. They have stricter ASVAB requirments but im sure she can make it in (it's not that strict but they just try to not allow stupid people). I did my time in the Marine Corps, whenever someone asks me what service to look into I list them in this way:

    1. Air Force

    2. Army

    Dont. Marines/Navy

You want her to learn how to dodge bullets from 100 yards? Army. Dodge from 35,000 feet? Air Force.

20 year Navy vet checking in, and there's nothing wrong with the Navy.

Between all 5 branches of the service (it's 5 now that the Coast Guard has been fully added to the DoD), the Navy and the Air Force are the 2 most technically evolved, with far more jobs to offer anyone and will prepare you for life after the military if you get into a really good, and in-demand, job field.

The Navy did me just fine for 20 years, and I saw more countries than I could ever dream of, even visiting 2 that I never ever thought I'd set foot in, China and Russia. If you want to see the world, join the Navy. If you want to fight, instill better self-discipline within yourself, and still see the world (we give them rides onboard ships every now and then), join the Marines.

However, if you want a better quality of life while serving in the military, then join the Air Force. It's common knowledge in the entire military community that the Air Force takes much better care of its servicemembers and their families.
"Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that."

"This is a lttle prayer dedicated to the separation of church and state. I guess if they are going to force those kids to pray in schools they might as well have a nice prayer like this: Our Father who art in heaven, and to the republic for which it stands, thy kingdom come, one nation indivisible as in heaven, give us this day as we forgive those who so proudly we hail. Crown thy good into temptation but deliver us from the twilight's last gleaming. Amen and Awomen. ."

"I think it's the duty of the comedian to find out where the line is drawn and cross it deliberately."

The Navy rocks. If I joined a branch of the military, it would definitely be the Navy. I could be Captain of the Enterprise!

I have an Uncle that was in the Air Force and in February my best friend will have been in the Air Force for 19 years. It also has it's downside, but less so than the other branches of the military. I would pick Air Force.
