    Default Four questions

    First:
It's about time to make a replica I think, I've got a Yamaha Pacifica 112 body, my question is, how are the pickup routes inside the body configured? Are they individual cavitys or one large cavity? This will decide which guitar I replicate. I ask this as I don't currently have it to hand to check.

    Second:
When I paint it up can I get away with just roughing the existing paint off or do I need to sand it totally down to the wood.

    Third:
I've got my home made Limey Humbucker to throw in it, it has a Fair Warning kind of sound when it is plugged straight into the amp. Are there any benifits to the tone if I scratchplate mount it or screw it into the body?

    Fourth:
Anyone got Catherine tabbed? Or know where it is tabbed online?

    Thanks, Limey

    1) No idea on the Yamaha. If it has a Strat pickguard on it, my *guess* (totally a guess) is that it's H-S-H like most of the Fenders are. That routing pattern allows the manufacturer to crank out a lot of bodies and make various guitars without switching the CNC program.

    2) I've been down both roads myself and I never had an issue with either. The only thing about just scuffing up the original surface is that you might get a reaction between the existing paint layer and the new primer layer. You get a nasty orange-peel look if that happens. A painter would probably tell you to go down to bare wood, seal it, sand with something really fine (1000 grit wet) and then hit it with primer, sand wet again, then paint then clear coat.

    3) I believe firmly in the approach of screwing everything into the wood, but that's just me. There are some who claim it doesn't help at all for the tone and that is true when you compare that to things like pickup placement (how far away from the bridge it is) and what the pickup is wound like. If its easier for you, just put it into the pickguard for the time being. its not that hard to take off the pickguard later and screw it into the wood if you want.

    4) I saw tab for Catherine somewhere online. If I find it again, I'll PM you.

    Good Luck

Come into some cash today so I've ordered a floyd for the build. How am I going to get the sustain sound without getting a sustainer, just play damn good I guess?

Which sustain are you talkin about? The one that EVH loves needs the sustainer.
Or are you referring to the feedback?

You could also use an e-bow
Be ready for my new amp "III OSIS" produced by H^3 in stores soon [that was funny in 2006]

I was reffering to the one that Ed seems to love these days, guess you answered my question.

This e-bow, will it give me the same sound as a sustainer?

Oh yeah, regarding the painting, I'm not after some high quality 'factory' finish, just a home made job like Ed did on his. Some of his look like a child painted them.

Yup, yet so are the guitars in "Big Country", by the band of the same name.
