    Setting Wolf up for scrutiny?

Do you think it's unfair of Ed to put his son in such a precarious position as to put him in front of thousands of mostly unforgiving Van Halen fans on a "World Tour"? He is still a teenager after all. An impressionable age. What will that do to his esteem if fans turn up with signs saying "Where's Mike?" or god forbid, start chanting "Mikey...! Mikey...! while he does a solo or something? I don't have a son. But I just can't see myself doing that to him if I did.

I gotta believe the kid's got the chops to pull it off musically, but is his skin thick enough? There's been PLENTY of musicians and "superstar kids" at ages even younger that have dealt with more pressure.

I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Hell, he might even be lights out to the point where he gets his own younger following......in which case, he wouldn't give a shit what all of us old people think, he'd have his own set of groupies his age !

What's not fair is cheating the fans out of a full-on reunion after too many years of waiting.

As his father, Ed's job is to keep his son away from that shit (touring, and all the extra "stuff" that goes with it) for as long as possible. Does Ed think the struggle to keep up with that life is FUN? Does he want his kid doing heroin and coke as 15-16 years of age? And why would he thrust him into a band that has been around for almost 30 years, in front of tens of thousands (we hope, heh) VH fans and just normal concert goers?

If he wants to jam with his kid, fine. Do so when they are together. Do a gig somewhere, sometime. Don't saddle him with 30+ years of Van Halen baggage and drama. Let the kid be a kid while there is still a little time left.

No kidding! EVH has already stated that WVH is "better than MA" so that sets the bar pretty high already.

Doesn't Ed remember the reception his "soul mate" Gary Cherone recieved on the "3" album and on tour?

As I've stated before, I think he'd fare much better on a EVH solo project than a VH tour. There's WAY too much baggage in this band for Wolfgang to get a fair shot.

Do I think it's fair? About as fair as many other teenage performers who tour the world, probably more since he has his dad and uncle on stage with him. I'm sure he can handle the material or they wouldn't put him on stage.

Don't think it's the greatest move in the world though. If Dave is back Mike should be there.

That said I wouldn't be too worried about wolfie for a few reasons:

    1) who says van halen fans are unforgiving? When I saw Sammy shows no one chanted "dave, dave" when i saw the gary show no one chanted "sammy sammy". If the fans were classy enough to give them a chance without ripping on them i'd like to think they'd give the kid a chance.

    2) i don't think he'll be doing a solo - that might he a mistake. To give everyone ammo to fire after the show.

    3) this ticket ain't gonna be cheap. I think he'll be preaching to the converted.

    4) anyone who has a "where's mike" sign ain't gonna have it for long.

I agree. If you don't like the idea of Wolfie joining the band then stay home.
Nothing wrong with that. Grab a bootleg copy.

If you're ito seeing Dave Eddie Al and Wolfie play, then you're gonna pay $$$$, so you'll be into the show and having a great time.

Don't forget this is supposed to be a summer tour, not a world tour.

I have this feeling that Ed is hearing/ seeing Wolfie though a father's eyes not a musicians. If wolf picks up the bass and farts Ed is probalby touting that as the second coming of himself. We will see though. At this point in time I highly doubt that wolf could hold a candle to Mike on bass. Think about Ed at 15, grade 9, playing in the Broken Combs with AL. Was he ready to take on the world at that age? Would he have been embraced as the great player he is at that point? I doubt it. He needed hours upon hours, days, and years of practicing in his room, while al went out and partied, to become the Ed we know and love.

Good point, but you could also think of it like this..... Ed's been gigging full time since he was 17, 18, 19 years old. And that was without the built in advantages of having family already in the bussiness and having a studio in the back yard and having ANY gear or instrument at your disposal anytime you want it.

Can those built in advantages offset 3 or 4 years of experience ? We'll see !
