What would it take to miss the reunion

assume the following:

A classic VH reunion is announced. The only show anywhere near where you live is set but you have a previous engagement (ie, wedding, other family responsibility). What would you be willing to pass on to see the show? cousins wedding, siblings wedding, your wedding, wife's birthday, etc.

LOL, it's just a concert. Lots of things could keep me away. Weddings, funerals, ridiculous ticket prices, absence of certain members, lack of new material being toured, the weather, illness....

It's evident a lot of folk on this board didn't get a chance to see Dave era Halen. Once again, as has been mentioned by several astute members, there is NO WAY any of us are gonna get a trip down '84 lane regardless of whether three or four of 'em are present. Those expecting to see as such, are gonna be dissapointed. You can't go home again. Time changes all things.

People keep talking about a 'Classic Van Halen' reunion, when in fact the 'classic' tone and vibe is long lost to history. Dave returning is something else entirely. It's 21st century Van Halen or bust. But it will not be Fair Warning reincarnate.

Really, the only way they can truly come back as a viable and validated entity is with all 4 members and NEW MATERIAL.

I don't see how people are expecting the 1984 tour or Fw VH if the original 4 are back on tour in 2007. I truly believe even the most diehard Roth fans here are realistic that the tour would be fun and they would have a good time while still being aware that it is 2007 and not 1984. That is a big if regarding the tour happening. I think speaking as a huge CVH fan I won't be mistaken nor will other "astute" members on this board of what year and era of VH it is. In 2004 it was a trip down nostalgia lane as well, but with 3 subar tracks backing a second unneeded hits package we were hearing it was a relevant VH back on the road around here. To those sam people they think that the 04' VH was going to be the 1986-1991 VH.

I don't think any incarnation of VH is going to be a working relevant unit any longer. It is like the Kiss tour of 1996. With any VH lineup out of Dave or Sammy singing it is classic rock. It is nostalgia. I'd like nothing more than VH with Dave to come back from the dead like Aerosmith did with Pump in 1989. This is a long shot at best with any lineup. Be thankful if they tour without an album. Be joyous if they tour behind an album. I just don't completely agree that a comeback will only be validated or be viable only based on new material. This won't prevent a reunion from being successful either.
