    Default DVD Burning Software

So, as some have noticed, I've been going thru my VHS boots of Van Halen, capturing them to my drive, uploading to youtube and burning to DVD.

I started with the Sonic software, but it quickly developed some bugs and half the buttoms were greyed out and I couldn't create menus.

Onto Nero 3.1......decent, but doesn't suppport Dual layer....I don't think.

Buddy just hooked me up with Nero 7.....can't tell if it supports DVD DL burining.....it keeps calling an 8 gig DVD something like a DVD-9......WTF.

    I did some investigating, looks like that's the equivalent of a DVD-R DL.....but not a DVD+R DL....IS THAT RIGHT?

I attempted to burn a +R last night in the older version, but it asked for the DVD-9.....warned me that it would fail....and it did.

    So the question.

Any Nero folks out there want to give me the low down on DVD-R DL vs. DVD+R DL and if Nero will burn the +R's....

    Thanks in advacne.

BTW, I have spent so much fuckin' time on this shit.......I'm tired of sittin' in this chair, having my cock go numb after hours of attempted burning.

And the funny thing is.....I'm a videographer and editor.....but I'm trying to save some time, and do it on my home PC.....glad to see my plan is working so well.

OK....I'm done, my cock in numb from sitting here so long and the wife's been in bed for a while....must retire to bed..

Not 100% sure on this, but........

I think it's the actual burner that dictates if it will burn on the different formats. Nero will support it all as long as the hardware does....I think?

If you open Nero's Infotool, it will scan your system and summarize everything that it supports. It'll look something like this:

I think my burner only supports DVD+R for DL but it will support anything for normal DVD-5 dvds.

And DVD-9 is dual layer, I think they just round that number up because the old ones are DVD-5 even though it's actually 4.7gb

    Hope that helps.

Here's a great site to find answers to this kinda shit:

As far as I know, NERO 7 will burn regardless of the media type (as in DVD R+ vs DVD R- or whatever. Your compatibility with those factors is hardware based. Most DVD burners on the market now will probably burn to any media, including the dual layer kind, which is called "DVD-9" even though it's actually 8.xxxxxGB (Much like your 120 GB hard drive actually turns out to be 118.8675309 GB or something like that..... they just rounded up.)

    Greenpaw basically has it..

and then there is the media - my burner didn't recognize the Verbatim +R DL's but worked with the FujiFilm brand. Word to the wise - figure out what works and then stick to it forever!

Here is a tip when burning Dual Layer discs with Nero. Save the project as an image file to your hardrive, do not burn directly to disc. When image burn is done, then burn DVD as an info disc, will work perfectly everytime!

I've used almost every DVD authoring software out there, the best is TEMPenc. I nearly always get 16x burns, and not one coaster. You can burn any way you like with this from my experience (backing up DVD's takes a total of about 10 minutes to rip and burn).

    http://www.tmpgenc.net/en/e_main.html

I have also used just about every type of disc, and the best I have come across is Verbatim, whether it's DL or not. I have 2 computers with burners, both different brands, and this holds true for both.

Thanks JC....I put your link into my favorites....if my pirate copy of Nero sucks....I might have to spend the cash.

I've been burning DVD+R DL with Sonic....so I'm assuming my bailed burn last night with Nero Version 3.1 was a lack of support for DL burning, and not a Drive issue for me....

The few folks who burn DL's, prefer the +R's......so I guess I'll crack open my 30 pack and see what happens.

    Thanks again.
