Murphy Back for Beverly Hills Cop IV!
    Source: Variety November 30, 2006

Eddie Murphy will return as detective Axel Foley in Beverly Hills Cop IV, working with Paramount in collaring Lorenzo di Bonaventura as producer, reports Variety.

The new regime at Paramount is keen on reviving the classic action-comedy franchise. Murphy will work closely with the studio and di Bonaventura in reinvigorating and updating the once-lucrative property. The project is out to writers.

Murphy, who will next be in theaters with Dreamgirls, has always been attached to star in the fourth installment.

The first two pics in the franchise, produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and his former partner Don Simpson, did enormous box office. Beverly Hills Cop collected $315.7 million worldwide, while the sequel earned $299.6 million worldwide.

The franchise ran into trouble with the release of Beverly Hills Cop III in 1994. The movie grossed only $44 million domestically.

Looks like producers nowadays don't have much imagination, we either got sequels or movies based on old TV series.

Well...hope the IV will be better than the III....

John Landis lost his touch by then too.

i think Dreamgirls will go a long way towards moving Murphy past his "kiddie movie" phase, but a return to stand-up would help him more than Cop 4 would.

Drummer in my band did all that sound on that movie actually, said that Dreamgirls movie is really very good, and that Murphy probably will get an Academy Award nomination from it.

I wish he would record a third standup instead.
It would have a better chance of sucking less.

While I'm generally not a fan of sequels, at least this'll probably be better than most of the crap he's made in the last 10 years. I also would like to see him do standup again, but I doubt that's going to happen. Hopefully the Axel character will be more like the one in the first movie, and not more "kid friendly." BTW, they'd better get Judge Reinhold back for it.

Sweet Jesus, I never knew it was meant as a "trilogy"! This will surely blow "Lord Of The Rings" off of the map.
